And it's another well received Platinum Games action game, this time with a sci-fi setting and the 'lets slow down time' mechanic that became popular around about the time of the game's original console release. Which was in 2010 for Xbox 360 and PS3. Vanquish, which follows the recent PC re-release of Bayonetta will provide players with an unlocked resolution, fast frame-rate, and special special edition goodies when it launches on Steam on May 25.

For those that are wondering what a futuristic Platinum Games action game looks like, here's the trailer.

Vanquish, like Bayonetta, released to mostly positive reviews with critics admiring the combat mechanics.

Resident Evil creator, Shinji Mikami, has been hard at work on looks to be a crowning jewel in Platinum Games' arsenal and a win for SEGA with Vanquish, a sci-fi action shooter set aboard a giant space-ship.

The game has been given a rather close release date for Australia of October 21 (22nd in New Zealand), which means we'll be filling the shoes of protagonist Sam much sooner than anyone expected, which is fine, because the game is looking amazing, and Mikami's last actual game was Resident Evil 4, and we all know that one turned out to be the goods (God Hand was in there somewhere, but he didn't like Capcom much by then, so we'll forget it exists).

There's the obligatory pre-order DLC bonus as well, which will offer early-birds exclusive access to a Three Weapons Pack for both Xbox 360 and PS3 on launch day. Check out the screens below or even more right here.

SEGA and Platinum Games have announced Vanquish, an all new property in the works at the Japanese studio, helmed by Resident Evil creator Shinji Mikami.

Not much else is known about the game, including what platforms it will end up on, but at this point it's reasonably safe to assume at least PlayStation 3, Xbox 360 and perhaps PC.

Enough speculation though, watch the cinematic teaser trailer and see for yourself.
