Nintendo has announced that it will be bringing the rather out there Japanese series Tomodachi to Western shores with Tomodachi Life, a sim that utilises custom Mii characters to develop some strange and hilarious stories.

Tomodachi Life has you customize your town's inhabitants by making Mii characters for them, including traits like their voices and personalities. From there, they'll take a life of their own based on how you've defined them, and interact with the other Mii characters. You then advance the plot by exploring their island and helping to solve their problems, and snap and share pictures of their exploits. Your Mii characters can come in contact with celebrity Miis as well--Nintendo has announced that singer Christina Aguilera will be available (in Mii form) at launch.
"Nintendo fans are familiar with Mii characters, but now they come to life in ways they never have before--with their own lives, interests and personalities,” said Nintendo of America marketing VP Scott Moffitt, in the announcement. “Customization and open-ended play are two big video game trends for 2014, and Tomodachi Life delivers a fun, creative experience that makes you want to visit again and again, because there’s always something interesting going on.”
If that doesn't sound crazy enough for you, find the Nintendo Direct below that gives you a great overview of just how much LSD you'll need in order to understand what is going on. From Reggie Fils-Aime's buffed up Mii character to Satoru Iwata asking out Metroid's Samus, this is one weird game that I eagerly want to play. I don't know why.

Tomodachi Life will be available exclusively on 3DS and 2DS come June 6th, retailing at $34.99.
