A year ago to the day we reported on a rumour that a Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic reboot or remake was currently in development -- and that it might combine elements from the first two games. And change a few things to keep it in line with the current canon. Now comes more info, from more sources, that the KOTOR project is still happening -- but not at EA.

With the recent announcement that Ubisoft was working on a new open-world Star Wars game, and the re-formed Lucasfilm Games back in charge of all Star Wars-related videogame goodness -- this is surprising but not, well, surprising.

The developer of the original KOTOR, BioWare, is currently working on remastering the Mass Effect trilogy alongside the next installment in the Dragon Age series. Plus, the next Mass Effect proper. KOTOR 2 studio Obsidian also has a number of projects in the works, plus it's now a first-party Xbox Game Studio.

So then, who's working on this mysterious KOTOR reboot or remake? Well, no one is saying -- insider Bespin Bulletin notes that the game is simply in development outside of EA. This has been backed up by Bloomberg's Jason Schreier noting that the studio in charge is unexpected or not what we might think when imagining a KOTOR remake.
