As far as Resident Evil is concerned, there's a certain level of cheese and B-grade the series can get away with. Hell, sometimes silly gameplay and design decisions fit into these exceptions as well, and can very easily be overlooked.

This is not the case with Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City. The game is a fundamentally flawed experience on almost every level and almost goes out of its way to fail in order to sully the reasonable name of Resident Evil. On paper the concept sounds good: a hypothetical, non canon entry in the series that revisits the events of Resi 2 and 3, only from the bad-guys' perspective with some competitive co-op multiplayer thrown in for good measure, but it fails, and fails miserably.

The retro tale that is Operation Raccoon City in the long-running Resident Evil series is set to release on PS3 and Xbox 360 tomorrow, March 22 (PC will arrive on May 18).

To celebrate this, Capcom has announced a free DLC release that will allow you to actually play as the good guys (instead of the evil Umbrella cats the game is based around), as a team of US Spec Ops operatives.
Deployed to Raccoon City to establish the truth behind what led to the deadly virus outbreak, the Spec Ops squad will meet a familiar face on their journey.

Fans of the series will be able to re-visit the moment when Jill Valentine encounters the Nemesis, sent by Umbrella to eliminate all S.T.A.R.S members. On a battle field that can only exist within the terrifying Resident Evil universe, players will need to fight off the opposing team members from the Umbrella Security Service as well as zombies and B.O.W.’s to succeed in their mission.
Stay tuned for the AusGamers verdict on this badboy coming this week in review form. In the meantime, check out the launch trailer for the game embedded below.

Capcom recently revealed a new playable mode for Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City, the four-player co-op/competitive third-person Resi romp being developed by SOCOM devs, Slant Six Games.
In Heroes Mode players will be able to compete in four vs. four with classic Resident Evil characters including Leon. S Kennedy, Jill Valentine, Hunk and Ada Wong. Players will either assume the role of the good or bad guys and compete against each other in a battle for survival. But it’s not that simple. Adding a twist to the traditional TPS gameplay players will need to not only defeat the opposing team but also zombies and BOW’s delivering a compelling triple threat battle.
We have a new trailer for Heroes mode you can watch embedded below, as well as a host of new screens that can be found right here.

An E3 trailer has appeared on YouTube, sort of setting the scene for the upcoming Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City - but really just showing a pretty cinematic sequence with the inevitable zombies at the end. The story:
It is September 1998 and the action centers once more on the ill-fated Raccoon City and the horrific consequences of the deadly T-virus outbreak from the Umbrella facility. With a cover up required, Umbrella orders an elite team into Raccoon City to destroy all evidence of the outbreak and eliminate any survivors. Hearing of this plan, the US Government dispatches its own special forces to uncover any evidence that exposes the cause of the viral infection and Umbrella’s actions. Players take on the role of an Umbrella Security Services soldier (U.S.S.), competing alone or in four player co-op in a battle against all the competing forces at play in Raccoon City.
More details will be available once E3 kicks off but in the meantime you can check out our game page for screenshots and watch the trailer below or click here for HD.
