If you hadn't already named your own price for Metro 2033 in the Humble THQ Bundle, you now have a chance to pick up the post-apocalyptic shooter completely free.

An advertisement on the game's facebook page, also accessible by via the URL freemetrogame.com, is offering players a Steam download key for the game, simply for clicking "like" to follow their social updates. According to the small-print, the offer ends on December 16.

The promotion serves to prime players with the game's chilling narrative in preparation for the upcoming sequel Metro: Last Light, which is due in March 2013, for PC, Xbox 360, and PlayStation 3.

THR is reporting (thanks Giant Freakin Robot) that MGM has recently picked up the Russian sci-fi novel and THQ video game adaption, Metro 2033, planning to turn the title into a Hollywood movie. The movie will revolve around the post-apocalyptic wasteland of Moscow, with F. Scott Frazier to pen the script.
The story is set in 2033, after a nuclear holocaust devastates Moscow and survivors head under ground. The focus is on a young survivor who is forced to go on a journey that will see him deal with mutants, soldiers of a Fourth Reich and political factions of various metro stations in order to reach above ground.
The feature film will be directed by Mark Johnson, whose credits include The Chronicles of Narnia movies and Galaxy Quest. No news yet as to when production will begin.

For those like me who were never sure if they would like (or could run) Metro 2033, we can find out with this hefty 2.94GB demo. From the game description:
The year is 2033. An entire generation has been born and raised underground, and their besieged Metro Station-Cities struggle for survival, with each other, and the mutant horrors that await outside.

You are Artyom, born in the last days before the fire, but raised Underground. Having never ventured beyond your Metro Station-City limits, one fateful event sparks a desperate mission to the heart of the Metro system, to warn the remnants of mankind of a terrible impending threat. Your journey takes you from the forgotten catacombs beneath the subway to the desolate wastelands above, where your actions will determine the fate of mankind.
You can download it now locally from AusGamers (with a few other mirrors available there too). promoted/edited forum item

Chalk one up to the traditions of free delivered content to PC games, as the first Metro 2033 DLC has just been released and is available to PC owners free of charge. However, Xbox 360 owners will have to pay 240 MS Points (about $4) because "Microsoft rules mean we have to charge for DLC on Xbox LIVE... they let us set the lowest possible price", or so claims the game's official twitter account.

I'm not sure about that though, as plenty of games have released DLC free of charge on Xbox 360. An any rate, the "Rangler DLC" will offer a new hardened "Ranger" mode which features less ammo, stronger weapons (plus two new), more powerful enemies and no HUD - truly for the hardcore players out there.

The recently released Metro 2033: The Last Refuge scored rather favourably here on AusGamers (AG Review 8.8) and to help you get even more out of the game, THQ have put together some great kits of top-tier Logitech peripherals for us to giveaway.

Prizes include Logitech gaming headsets, keyboards and mice as well as 5.1 speaker setups. The total prize pool here has an RRP of $3614, divided amongst 1 grand prize bundle and 3 runners-up packs so it's undoubtedly some decent kit.

So once again, it's time to put together the best 25 words you can rustle up and head over this way to enter the competition.

Metro 2033: The Last Refuge is now available Australia wide on PC and Xbox 360.

AusGamers recently went hands-on with Metro 2033, an all-new post-apocalyptic shooter from new dev studio, 4A Games (made up of some ex-S.T.A.L.K.E.R. devs), based in the Ukraine.

Opting for a more story-driven experience rather than the free-roaming we've come to expect from the genre (and based on a book of the same name, no less), Metro 2033 draws you into its world through compelling characters, excellent scripting and voice-acting, and engaging gameplay. It's at the same time both exhilarating and unnerving.

You can check out an AusGamers early exclusive in our hands-on preview as well as this new, never-before-seen trailer and a host of all-new screens. Enjoy!
