Continuing its gaming news domination at the moment, Mass Effect has been announced as the latest wardrobe acquisition by Square Enix for Final Fantasy XIII-2, with news you'll be able to purchase N7 armour for your FF characters via new DLC.

Two different sets of armour will be released for both the main characters in the game, Serah Farron and Noel Kreiss, and will be available from March 28 for both the Xbox 360 at 240 MS Points each and the PlayStation 3 at AUD$3.45 each.

As the post holiday lull in new game releases comes to a close, Square-Enix lead the charge with one of 2012's first big-name titles due on shelves this week -- the next addition to their long-running JRPG series with Final Fantasy XIII-2.

As the name suggests, XIII-2 is a direct sequel to 2010's Final Fantasy XIII, once again bucking the franchise's preference for telling an entirely new story with each game.

Final Fantasy XIII-2 is due on Australian shelves this Thursday for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 but AusGamers reviewer ko-zee-ii has already had plenty of quality time with the finished product and you can find out his thoughts in this detailed critique.

Another demo has surfaced today with Square Enix's Final Fantasy XIII-2 arriving on Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network. The demo lands ahead of the game's official launch next month (February 2nd), and features a taste of the usual Final Fantasy combat, item management and very Japanese character development (keep an eye out for the Furry-esque vendor).

We have a video showing off what's in store for the demo you can check out embedded below, and as always, we encourage anyone who grabs this to drop a line in the Comments section to let us know how it fares. Otherwise standby for the AusGamers review in the coming weeks leading up to the game's official release.

It's been a long time coming, but the Xbox 360 now looks like it's going to start getting a fair share of the Final Fantasy pie. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is due to arrive on it and the PlayStation 3 February 3, 2012, and to accompany this news of Western arrival, we have both an Xbox 360 trailer and a PS3 one (for the fickle segregationists out there).

Obviously the lead platform for this series has always been Sony's beasts, but it is great to see it looking this good on Microsoft's console.

Watch the Xbox 360 trailer here, and the PS3 trailer here.

Square-Enix in Japan today have officially announced a new direct sequel to last year's Final Fantasy XIII, confirming the rumours when Internet-sleuths noticed the new domain registration which once again adds the "-2" to their otherwise roman-numerated franchise.

Details on the new JRPG are scant at present, however a teaser trailer recorded from a Japanese event has been leaked and shouldn't be too hard for interested parties to track down (although it has been removed from Youtube at the time of this posting). We'll hopefully know more about the game when the clip is officially released in a couple of days.

For the time being, you can check out the rather sparse official website and this single screenshot.

In other Final Fanasty news. The upcoming PlayStation Portable title Final Fantasy Agito XIII has now been renamed to Final Fantasy Type-0, presumably to avoid confusion with XIII-2. Thanks Japan!
