October sees the release of new DLC for Obsidian's Dungeon Siege III called "Treasures of the Sun".

The new content arrives for all three platforms and will take players out of Ehb and into the Aranoi Desert in search of a lost Legion soldier. Story aside, the new content also delivers a host of new gameplay features:
  • New abilities: Players will be able to attain mastery of the arcane through powerful new attack, defense and healing abilities.
  • Level up to 35: DUNGEON SIEGE III: TREASURES OF THE SUN will further power up players by raising DUNGEON SIEGE III's existing level cap from 30 to 35.
  • More monsters and items: Players will encounter new monsters in the Aranoi Desert—including mummies and giant skeletons—and will find more powerful items, adding to the thousands already available in DUNGEON SIEGE III.
  • Reallocate Talent & Proficiency Points: Players can reallocate points spent in Proficiencies and Talents, enabling changes to character customization throughout the campaign.
  • New Enchanting System: Transmuting items now gives players chances at gaining powerful new Vials that allow them to enhance their weapons and armor through the DLC’s new enchanting system.

Shackled to the wall of the AusGamers dungeon, Kosta seemed like the best possible reviewer for Obsidian's first foray into the Dungeon Siege franchise. After all, we found him looting dead bodies in a dungeon; clad in tight leather pants and shooting lightning from his palms, all while laughing maniacally (honestly, that's how we found him).

Turns out we were half right - he was the best person to review the game, it's just that Dungeon Siege 3 apparently has little to do with dungeons on the whole. Luckily Kosta is also well-versed in looting mansions, castles and enemy encampments, and is also a skilled forest frolicker.

A demo for Dungeon Siege 3 is now available from Steam.
For centuries legionnaires have protected the nation of Ehb until they were betrayed and all but driven to the brink of extinction. Now that evil has returned to Ehb the people turn to the few remaining Legionnaires for the protection of the past. As an heir to the legion will you accept this plea for help? How it will all be resolved is up to you!

Dungeon Siege III is an Action RPG that seamlessly blends intuitive fast-paced gameplay, a robust RPG system featuring a large selection of abilities, loot galore and the depth of story Square-Enix and Obsidian Entertainment are known for creating. Players will be able to adventure by themselves, on the couch with friends, or online in a fully multiplayer experience.
Not actually clear exactly what is in the demo just yet but if you're after a taste - fire up Steam and get to downloading!

Square Enix have revealed that a demo for their forthcoming dungeon-crawler, Dungeon Siege III, is on its way to all three platforms.

Xbox 360 will get the game first, from May 31st, while the PC and PlayStation 3 will have to wait a week for a June 7 release. No specific reason was given for the Xbox 360 head-start, but this is hardly new to the industry these days.

Developed by Obsidian Entertainment (Fallout: New Vegas), Dungeon Siege III is the first time the series has landed on home-consoles proper, and is running off their proprietary engine, but for more, be sure to check out our early hands-on with the game here.

Dungeon Siege III is due to hit all three platforms for release on June 17.

Square Enix have released another new trailer for Dungeon Siege 3, their upcoming action-RPG dungeon crawler. This latest video focuses on the game's cooperative multiplayer element and although the one minute clip is book-ended by an excessive intro and outro, there is a little bit of actual four-player action there in the middle.
Combining mastery of the blade, enchanted ballistics, entropic magic and a fiery wrath, Lucas, Katarina, Reinhart and Anjali stand united in their quest to save the Kingdom of Ehb. Theirs is a heavy burden, but they carry it... together. Featuring seamless drop-in, drop-out co-op multiplayer for up to four players, Dungeon Siege III will see you and your party unite the Legion and drive out the evil once and for all.
Check it out below or click here for HD.

Dungeon Siege 3 is due on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on June 16 2011.

Square Enix have announced that gamers who pre-order the upcoming Dungeon Siege 3 on Steam will receive the first two games (unsurprisingly, called Dungeon Siege and Dungeon Siege 2) for free as part of the deal - and you get them to play now:
"Providing DUNGEON SIEGE I and DUNGEON SIEGE II free of charge through Steamworks is Square Enix’s way of showing appreciation to the fans of the DUNGEON SIEGE franchise," said David Hoffman, executive producer for DUNGEON SIEGE III. "Selecting Steamworks to be integrated into the upcoming DUNGEON SIEGE III title made perfect sense as we wanted to provide the best possible gameplay experience for PC gamers and long-standing fans of the series.”
It's great to see more and more offers like this with publishers capitalising on their old IP not by trying to sell you ancient games at inflated prices, but by making it a value-add for their newer titles. That said, I prefer the model where they make their old games available for free to try to entice you in to the story :)

AusGamers was recently given the opportunity to play an early demo of Dungeon Siege III, running on PC for just over an hour and we walked away with some mighty nice impressions, and given this latest entry in the series is being handled by the hot and cold Obsidian, that can only be a good thing.

So, for the action/RPG dungeon-crawling junkies out there craving major loot-dops, it looks like this team (who are being overseen by Chris Taylor) might have a cure for what ails you. Not a Torchlight person? Don't think Diablo III is ever going to be release? Dungeon Siege III is just what you've been waiting for.

Another new reveal to come out of PAX was the first public showing of actual gameplay action from Dungeon Siege 3. Previously we'd only been offered a teaser trailer, some concept art then a few rather nondescript screenshots, so check out this in-game trailer for the first substantial look at Obsidian Entertainments upcoming sequel to this proven action-RPG franchise.
Torn asunder, the delicate balance of power between the kingdom of Ehb's powerful factions has fallen apart. As one of the few remaining members of the disgraced protectors of the land, the 10th Legion, it is up to you to rebuild the once great Legion and stop Ehb from falling into darkness. Joined by a group of unique companions, you will travel through the striking land of Ehb defeating all manner of villains and beasts through a combination of heroic abilities, screen shaking magic and fearsome weapons.
Dungeon Seige III is currently in development for PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, a release date target has yet to be confirmed.

More screenies have landed from GamesCom, and again they're of the role-playing game kind. Dungeon Siege fans were likely pretty stoked to be reminded of the third installment coming soon a few weeks back (trog sure was), and today we have more in-game goodness for you.

Thankfully we were handed more than just a few, so you can click on the embedded images below, or right here to see the full GamesCom specific batch.

Looks like the fantasy genre is making an impactful comeback, solidified further by today's debut trailer for Dungeon Siege 3 from Obsidian Entertainment.

There's no gameplay on offer in this debut video, but it shows the game will clearly focus heavily on story (a must for any fantasy title, really) as well as maintaining the series' lineage. It's also important to note that Square Enix and Obsidian have made a point to mention the developer's hand in both Fallout: New Vegas and Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II; throwing some proverbial RPG weight behind the teams involved. Either way, it's all boding quite well for the franchise.

Unfortunately, we'll have to wait until next year, but in the meantime, check out the trailer below.
