PlayStation Plus users can download Arkan Studio's much-loved Dishonored for free for PS3 between now and May 5, Bethesda revealed.

A PlayStation Plus subscription is required to not only nab the game, but to also play its content (so if your sub lapses at any time, you won't have access to the game). The offer dries up on the 5th, which also happens to be new content release day for Bethesda's other well-received shooter, Wolfenstein, when The Old Blood drops for PC, PS4, Xbox One, PS3 and Xbox 360.

It’s probably easiest, from the outset, to give you the requisite comparisons for contextual purposes. In every review of this game you read, these will appear almost like a checklist, but it’s important to lay a foundation given this is new waters for everyone, which in itself is an important point I’ll touch on shortly. Thief, Deus Ex and BioShock - those three games could very easily sum up for you the types of situations and opportunities you’ll be faced with in Dishonored, and yet levelled by the aforementioned narrative construct, any components it harbours from those games is left to “homage” rather than “borrow”, because it’ll conjure familiarity for most, but on the whole everything is delivered in such a grounded way, it all becomes the property of the Dishonored universe.

In addition to Arkane Studios' hit game Dishonored being available for free on Xbox Live for Xbox 360 until the end of the month, it is also available for free play on Steam all weekend. Borderlands 2 is also available during the weekend as a free play game.

The first-person stealth action game is playable for free until Monday, 6:00am AEST. Bethesda are also offering the game at a 75% discount for those who want to continue playing after the weekend, pricing it at $11.24 for just the game or $16.99 for the Game of the Year Edition.

Bethesda has announced a worldwide release date of August 13 2013 (which equates to August 14 on this side of the date line) for the Xbox 360, PS3, and PC offering of Dishonored's final downloadable content expansion, The Brigmore Witches.

In The Brigmore Witches, continue your journey as the legendary assassin, Daud, and bring his twisted narrative that began with The Knife of Dunwall to a close. After discovering the identity and intentions of Delilah, the leader of the Brigmore Witch coven, you set out to disrupt her from completing a powerful ritual that will spell your doom. Having already been betrayed by your lieutenant, Billie Lurk, you must rely on feuding gang factions - the Dead Eels and the Hatters - to negotiate your way through previously unseen districts of Dunwall en route to Delilah’s stronghold. Regardless of the way you reach your destination, one thing is for certain - you will finally answer for your treacherous actions and fall before the mercy, or punishment, of the Royal Bodyguard and Assassin, Corvo Attano. Additionally, your power, weapon and item upgrades, Chaos level, and player actions from The Knife of Dunwall will carry over via a compatible save file option.

The Australian price point has been set at AUD $14.45 or 800 Microsoft Points --marginally higher than the announced North American price point of US$9.99.

Bethesda has announced that those looking to own the "complete" version of first-person stealth title Dishonored will be able to do so come May 14 when the four pre-order DLC packs are bundled together for sale. Included in the bundle is the Acrobatic Killer Pack, Arcane Assassin Pack, Backstreet Butcher Pack and Shadow Rat Pack, all bundled into the Void Walker Arsenal.

With the Void Walker’s Arsenal add-on pack, gain immediate access to four content bundles previously available only through pre-ordering Dishonored. A fact sheet explains that Daud will be able to utilise similar supernatural abilities as Corvo, with a few new options, as well as call in his underlings for assistance. Players will get to see familiar locations and events from a different perspective, as well as visit new sections of the city of Dunwall.

The announcement also revealed the third, and final expansion The Brigmore Witches, which will "conclude Daud's Story".

Bethesda has today announced that the stealthy first-person steampunk title Dishonored will be set to receive three DLC packs, with the first one being available in December. The first one to arrive will be called Dunwall City Trials, and will allow players to compete against 10 distinct challenges.

Dishonored: Dunwall City Trials, being released in December for AUD$8.45 (or 400 Microsoft Points), will include 10 challenge maps that will test and track your combat, stealth and mobility skills. Ten distinct trials await challengers - including an arena battle against waves of enemy AI, a gravity-defying run of drop assassinations, and a race against the clock. Dunwall City Trials also features a whole new set of achievements and trophies as well as a global online leaderboard that will establish the greatest assassins for each challenge.

The DLC pack will be available December for $8.45 (800 Microsoft Points) and will be released simultaneously on all platforms.

Bethesda has also revealed details on the second DLC pack, which will be focused on story-driven campaigns. The DLC will focus on Daud, the leader of a group of supernatural assassins named 'The Whalers'. The DLC will be available sometime in Spring 2013. The third DLC has yet to be announced.

While us Australians still have to wait another day before we can get our hands on the very hotly anticipated title Dishonored (AusGamers 9.6/10) from Arkane Studios, the lucky Americans (or VPN people) have been enjoying the game since yesterday. To celebrate the launch, Arkane Studios and Bethesda Softworks have released a launch trailer today showcasing the very gritty nature of the industrial whaling city Dunwall.

Dishonored is set in Dunwall, an industrial whaling city where strange technology and otherworldly mysticism coexist in the shadows. You are the once-trusted bodyguard of the beloved Empress. Framed for her murder, you become an infamous assassin, known only by the disturbing mask that has become your calling card.

In a time of uncertainty, when the city is being besieged by plague and ruled by an oppressive government armed with neo-industrial technologies, dark forces conspire to bestow upon your abilities beyond those of any common man -- but at what cost? The truth behind your betrayal is as murky as the waters surrounding the city, and the life you once had is gone forever.

Those of you holding out until the last minute should probably not watch this, but for anyone else eager to see what Dishonored is about, then make sure you check out the trailer below.

By now the Internet has exploded with reports of Dishonored's foray into the videogame landscape as not only one of the year's best releases, but also one of this generation's.

And they'll all be right. Arkane's first effort under the ownership of publisher Bethesda is one of the most exciting IPs I've had the pleasure of entering in to, and the more of its amazing world I understand, the more I hope that it proves an amazing success so we'll see more. From a videogame perspective, it's the perfect antithesis to almost every other first-person game on the market, or about to come into the market. If you like single-player games, player-choice, stealth and incredible narrative, this is one not to be missed.

Each time I've spoken with anyone from Arkane Studios, I've always snuck a question about "transmedia" in there. Transmedia, for those unaware, is the exploitation of your source material across more than one media platform, and in the case of Arkane and Dishonored, seems like a perfect way to pull from the seemingly deep and rich world the developer has crafted for their forthcoming single-player experience

Every time I've aksed I've been met with a "we're just focusing on the game right now" type of response, but my question may have been answered, in short, by today's new "Tales From Dunwall - Part 1" Dishonored video.

While short, the video's purpose is to begin fleshing out, at least from a background perspective, the game-world we'll all be trouncing through in two weeks time, and it's as stylish as all get-up. (In fact, I'm as excited about seeing more of these as I am about playing the Game.)

Topics discussed include the game's main-story play-time, the potential for speed runs, PC key-binding, gameplay systems and what didn't make it in. Bethesda has released the haunting Druken Whaler song as a free download, encouraging fans of the upcoming Dishonored to remix the eerily re-imagined sea shanty, that originally debuted in the game's impressive E3 gameplay trailer.

A developer blog from the song's composers explain how the traditional drunken sailor song was chosen to match the game's atmosphere with it's pseudo Victorian-era London, sci-fi, steampunk, mutant whaling town vibe.

The new lyrics for “The Drunken Whaler” are darker than the original song, so many of the discussions revolved around which verses would best inspire Bethesda's editor, Salinee Goldenberg, to craft a three-minute story from the gameplay footage. The group decided on using the voices of ordinary children – rather than a professional youth choir – to achieve a dark, haunting quality to the music. This created an interesting juxtaposition between the innocence of the voices and the brutality in the gameplay footage.

Gaining critical momentum, Arkane Studios' Dishonored is going to be one of the game's to beat this year for the competition as it enters the field with myriad gameplay opportunities for players, not the least of which is stealth.

Today Bethesda and Arkane have released a new trailer detailing the depth and layers of the stealth component of Dishonored, which takes into account lighting, sound and line-of-sight. But how you avoid, or exploit, these will change your experience dynamically, and with a huge arsenal of moves and abilities to draw from, the game's protagonist, Corvo, should be able to remain completely hidden throughout the entire game, if he so chooses.

Dishonored arrives on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 this October 11.

Player freedom is one of the key design philosophies of developer Arkane Studios in their upcoming first person action game Dishonored, and they've implemented this in gameplay through an array of supernatural and gadget abilities. We've seen previous examples of some of the different ways these powers can be exploited to traverse levels, but today's video is all about actually vanquishing your in-game foes.

Titled "Creative Kills", the clip showcases some of the clever ways that players can manipulate the game's poor unsuspecting AI in ways that go far beyond the trusty old point-weapon-pull-trigger method. As explained in our previous interviews with Arkane, many of these techniques weren't actually intentionally designed, but discovered by the team while experimenting during testing.

Hot off the QuakeCon presses is a batch of new screens for Arkane's Dishonored, showcasing the game's amazing art-direction. There isn't much new here by way of information regarding gameplay, but it does help sell the richly detailed game-world the studio has been touting since the game was unveiled some time ago.

Bethesda has today revealed the all-star cast lending their voices to their upcoming FPS action game, Dishonored. With names like Susan Sarandon (“Thelma & Louise,” “Dead Man Walking”) or Golden Globe winner Brad Dourif (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest”) it isn't uncommon to see such large names in today's video games.

Dishonored will feature an award-winning ensemble including Academy Award winner, Susan Sarandon (“Thelma & Louise,” “Dead Man Walking”), Golden Globe winner, Brad Dourif (“The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, “One Flew Over the Cuckoos Nest”), Emmy Award nominees Carrie Fisher (original “Star Wars” trilogy) and John Slattery (“Mad Men”), Michael Madsen (“Thelma & Louise,” “Reservoir Dogs,” “Kill Bill”), and Lena Headey (“300,” “Game of Thrones”).

“Having such talented actors voice Dishonored's compelling cast of characters adds a rich, powerful element to the game,” said Raphaël Colantonio, president of Arkane Studios. “We want to draw people into this virtual world and make it feel real. Bethesda has release what appears to be the first in a series of new gameplay trailers for Dishonored, that will likely tease and tantalise us over the next couple of months until the game's October launch.

Today's clip is titled "Daring Escapes", and as you might expect, features our player using his various abilities to outmanoeuvre and outwit the guards of Dunwall.

You’ve infiltrated the Boyle Mansion, but things have gone poorly and the City Watch is on your tail. What do you do?

In “Daring Escapes” discover three possible escape routes utilizing supernatural abilities available to Corvo: Blink, Bend Time, and Possession. Choose Corvo’s escape plans by selecting The Long Jump, Sleep Tight, or Chain Possession.
