Melbourne-based indie developer, 3 Sprockets, has crafted one stylish strategy title as the subject of this week's Aussie-developed iOS/Android Game of the Week, though this week the game is only available on iPad 2+ in the mobile space. It is, however, up for grabs on Steam for PC and the Apple Mac App Store for the desktop platforms.

Part tower defense, part real-time strategy, Cubemen sees players defending a base in increasingly complex and creative maps, built from cubes. In fact, everything in the game is cube-based, even the exploded bits of your cube enemies are tiny little cubes, giving the game a bit of an old-school look and feel that adds to its charm.
It’s the age old struggle between Good vs Bad, Blue vs Red, Little men vs Little men. Use your own little Cubemen to defend your base from other little Cubemen that are trying to run it over. It’s the usual story, but with many very interesting twists.

Play a purely defense game in various modes on a sweet selection of levels, or go into Skirmish mode and play a new type of TD game against either the computer or another human opponent. That’s right... Two way REAL-TIME TD against the computer or a real person!
"Mac App Store only launched yesterday with the iOS version, [and] Steam launched not even two weeks ago, so it is still very new," explained 3 Sprockets' Seon Rozenblum. "But response has been way beyond my expectations. Everyone seems to just love it and totally get what I was trying to achieve with the simplicity of visuals and focus on strategy.

"Overall, Cubemen has taken me about eight months to make," Seon added.

You can grab the game now on the App Store for AUD$4.49, from Steam for AUD$4.99 or at a 20% discount via Desura for AUD$3.99. Watch the trailer embedded below, and check out more on our Cubemen game page.
