There are a lot of ways games attempt to break traditional moulds. Some invent new gameplay innovations, others require specific peripherals to "enhance" the experience, or many just shy away from what has been the norm for years.

The latter is the case with Asura's Wrath, an anime series essentially posing as a videogame. Yet we're actually fine with this. Because, there is enough gameplay here to let the game co-exist with action brethren like Bayonetta, Devil May Cry et al, and the story feels well and truly at home in the videogame realm. Also, planned DLC will actually feature Ryu from Street Fighter for a bit of one-on-one fighting action... so there's definitely some value here.

Check out our in-depth review for more.

The game has only just come out (review incoming soon), but DLC plans for Capcom and CyberConnect2's Asura's Wrath, the anime-inspired beat-em-up that features epic battles on the moon and various other exotic locations, between gods no less, will be invaded by a number of Street Fighter characters ready to get in on some of the Asura beat-down. Exactly how (or why) this will work still isn't known, but Street Fighter hero, Ryu, is the main squeeze cited.

Moreover, Capcom also announced two more story-specific DLC packs will be released for the game intended to fill some of the narrative gaps of the retail release, only these will be presented in new, unique art-styles. No dates were offered up for any of the new content though, so stay tuned for more details as they become available.

Check out a handful of screens from the newly revealed content packs below.

Hot on the heels of the demo announced yesterday, Capcom have given us details of what to expect if you pre-order from the local brick and mortar stores.

EB Games will be offering a exclusive art book that showcases the angriest Demigod of all time, Asura. 48 pages of beautiful colour and art will definitely make any Demigod jump with joy.

JB Hi-Fi are offering a 60cm x 90cm wall scroll that features Asura in a characteristic state of extreme displeasure. Hang this on your bedroom door to remind yourself how good you’ve got it, or fix it to your cubicle wall to remind your colleagues that they best not mess with you – the ticking time bomb of fury.

There will also be following DLC as a pre-order exclusive to all stores:
  • Devastator Pack – Featuring Guardian Mode for superior damage reduction and Iconoclast Mode to fill your Unlimited Gauge faster.

  • Infinity Pack – Featuring Extinguisher Mode for faster cooling after overheating and Zealot Mode for extended use of your Unlimited Function.
Asura's Wrath is due to arrive on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this February 24. Check out our game page for more information.

Fans of over-the-top anime and manga might do themselves a favour and check out Asura's Wrath from CyberConnect2 and Capcom, a third-person action title that sees players taking on the role of a six-armed protagonist who fights any number of crazy, equally over-the-top god-like beings.

While most of our exposure to the game so far hasn't really sold us too much on "gameplay", there's no denying the art-style, art-direction and explosive themes are well worth a look in, and thankfully Capcom have released a demo for the game which can now be grabbed on Xbox Live. (If you grab, be sure to drop a line in the Comments section with your thoughts).

Asura's Wrath is due to arrive on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 this February 24.
