Never heard of Magento, is it some sort of noobish hosting/eCommerce thing? basically yes, I wouldn't go as far as calling it noobish though. I'm just offering the work here before I tell them to go and find some freelancer from india lol. |
Magento is probably one of the biggest professional ecommerce focus CMS's in the dev world now.
Especially after their buy-out by eBay. They claim to be doing something amazing with X Commerce - http://www.x.com They have a GO version which rivals shopify style providers. Our agency used to do a lot of Magento focus, sorry don't know any Aus based peeps. |
Interesting, I haven't heard of it. It's right up my ally too.
holy crap 1 character TLD, never heard of that either |
Soooo many removed post lol.
Magento is massive these days, and supposed to be quite good to work with although I''ve yet to work with it I've been meaning to look into it - but yea from from noobish haha. |
They actually have a story behind that x.com domain. According to Bob Schwartz (President of Magento, who I very briefly met last year) Jeff Bezos (Founder of eBay) nabbed that domain many many years ago and has always been looking for a way to use it for some kind of game-changing ecommerce type thing, which is why they acquired Magento.
From a biz/dev perspective, Magento is great, it's perfect for customers as it provides loads of great e-commerce functionality out of the box and an easy to use admin interface. Developers love it, as it's all theme/framework/cms based, generally you just configure it's options and do mostly front-end dev.. you don't do a lot of back-end unless your customising features. As it's open-source based it also has a huge development community with thousands of plug-ins and modules for added feature/functionality, not dissimilar to Drupal or Wordpress. Surprised it's not widely used in Aus, though Aus seems to be 3-5 years behind the UK, Europe and US in internet regards. |
I haven't done any development work on it but it is really good for multiple sales channels is seems.
Admin wise its pretty damn slick. |
might get in touch with mammoth and see if they're interested
