hello css gurus.
i am messing around with the menu layout on my website.
when the menu expands and the scroll bars pop up it moves everything to the left, is there a way to avoid this issue?
i am moving it around with padding, might i solve this issue by using margins instead?
domino I don't understand the 'issue'. What would you like to see happen?
perhaps have the scrollbar there all the time? overflow: scroll

when the scroll bars pop up it throws everything in the menu around, i don't want it to move anything.
Not sure you can do anything other than force a scrollbar to always appear with overflow-y:scroll;
haha nice cup hardware :D
then you won't be able to scroll at all
yeah no scroll ...
Anyone else only use textpad+chrome inspect?
Also i just wanted to gush about chrome inspect a bit more. How f*****g cool is it playing with website variables on the fly :)
Alright I figured it out.
You need to wrap your menu div in another div, let's call it 'wrap'.
Remove all your styles from #menu and move them to your 'wrap' div.
Make the menu div width a lot wider than the wrap div.
Alternatively put a width on your .container that is 180px, and make the #menu a bit wider, like 200px
or the other way, make .container 160px and #main 180px
something like that

THANKS DUDE! giving container width of 180px worked fine.
