I bet you got excited, thinking you could install me on your phones. Ha!

It's actually
CyanogenMod Inc., the newly formed corporation behind the popular custom ROM of the same name, released an Android app that will guide you through the process of installing the ROM to your phone.

Thought some of you might like to play with it, can be got cyanogenmod

But you'll need a compatible phone, wiki.cyanogenmod

Enjoy and report back if you get it going.

Yeah, it's certainly one of the more seamless and complete ROM's I've tried (I don't try many, too busy f*****g with PC's),

There is a ton of options all neatly set out in the standard settings so you don't have to feel like all your functionality is made of lots of downloaded addons. Cool lockscreens etc. The handset makes calls and sends messages as it should. Wifi works properly, etc. As an OS I can't fault the build I have or I wouldn't have allowed it to sit on there for this many months lol.

The nightly I'm using is old (but rather new at the time) for this handset, but even so, I get 2-3 days out of it if I don't use it much. (Few times a day for not long kinda thing)

Overclocking isn't in the scope of CM, so expect nothing there.

Edit: F*** yeah 666 posts.

I've got CyanogenMod 10.2.n on my Samsung Galaxy S1 right now. It runs really well.

It certainly runs significantly better than stock firmware. Hooray!

I've got a telstra SGS3 (i9305T, i think is the model), can I install CM on it?

It doesn't say it's compatible, but just wondering if others tried with any success?

Yup CM Mod should work on your Telstra infested phone. The only difference for the T variant is the MODEM, CM mod doesn't change the modem so you should be right, if there is a problem though you can always download and flash the correct modem firmware.

I'm not super tech savvy with phone hardware, so can you elaborate on which bit the modem is and what it does? Is it just the thingy that let's it talk to the telstra network?

Yup it is a piece of hardware and firmware inside your phone that connects you to the next work and can be 'changed' with downloaded firmware. Generally though, the current firmware on your phone is probably the best one.

If you're new to this stuff I'd suggest having a good long read about it before going further.

Not everyone needs people to fix their s*** at an expensive rate. Not everyone cares about a few hundred dollars to replace a dead phone either.

Chin up bro, the world isn't that bad, really.

CM 11 is the kitkat (4.4) version btw, not sure what devices it is available on atm except the HTC One but is unofficial port. Everything is working except bluetooth music as far as I can tell on xda.

offtopic but android related and really a PSA because this app is so damn good

Pushbullet - GET IT! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.pushbullet.android&referrer=utm_source%3DPlayboard%26utm_medium%3DWidgetWeb%26utm_campaign%3DPlayboard

Mirrors notifications from your phone to your desktop.
Also does what the the google Chrome to Phone app does, but in reverse as well, but beyond that you can push yourself notes/addresses/files and you can then open it whatever program you wish on android and vice versa eg: send a link/text from your phone to your browser.

anyone who wants more info on what the telstra modems and stuff are, there's a tonne of info over at XDA developers in the aussie threads (not all phone models are discussed, I know the SGS3 is)

I *believe* the "T" modems are just specifically tuned to the frequency that telstra uses so it attenuates the other signals from other carriers.
