how to delete duplicate songs from a library

As the subject says, anyone know any easy way to remove dupes from a rather large music collection? itunes says i have 18000 dupes but if you delete the whole list you also delete that song entirely. (it doesn't leave one behind)

Any Ideas?

If it was me, I would just remove the entire list of songs and do a full PC search again.

theres lots of ways to do it
get some kind of file explorer that does dupes
like beyond compare or some such thing
or what's that other one? tree explorer or something?

or enqueue them all into winamp
organise by artist or filename or somthing
and just go through them and stop when you spot duplicates.

What he said... seriously.. be careful... you'll never look back until your ENTIRE library have been through Picard... and whats better.... your library will have never looked so good until it's all done.

Hmm calculate the md5 of your song files and then copy the output into excel/calc and then sort by duplicates.

Im sorry, but why would you need 45000 songs?

You could listen to 12 tracks a day for the 10 years, without repeating a single one.

Even once you de-duplicate you would have 33000, thats 9 tracks a day for 10 years.

why the 9 tracks a day limit?

why the 9 tracks a day limit?

it wasnt a limit, it was 33000/3560 days.

or 90 tracks a day for a year.

My point is why would you need that much music? would someone seriously need to listen to 90 DIFFERENT songs every day for a year.

Or more importantly, it's a collection built up over time. It's not like you decide one day "I need 45000 songs". You buy music, and you don't get rid of it, so it builds up.

I had 20gb of just techno at one stage, 4 mixes of one song, starts to add up after a while. nothing wrong with having variety.
