I would buy a focus electric if they were available for a decent price.
Neat vid. How much is a Ford Focus? I quite like the idea of a noiseless car, but I *think* the research shows that the less auditory feedback a driver has about their car the poorer they can estimate the speed.
That's a cool vid. I would buy an electric if the infrastructure was there (i.e., a charge device at my work car park).
Yeah, infrastructure is the big thing. It really needs to be as common to see a charing terminal as it is to see a petrol pump. It'd be tough to do a long road-trip in an electric car at the moment.
Also, I would assume that charging an electric car isn't anywhere near as fast as filling up your tank with fuel. That'd be a big problem. |
It is generally something you do at home overnight.
Yeah, I'm aware of that, but that's not as convenient as looking down at your fuel gauge and going "ah, low on fuel, I'll quickly pull over at top up."
Imagine going on a long drive. Even if there were charging stations at every fuel station, you'd have to spend a couple hours at every stop while you wait for the car to charge. |
^swappable batteries. I reckon charging is the way to go rather than swappable batteries. I imagine something like Canada's block heater plug-ins to keep your engine block and coolant from freezing up - a pole sticking up out of the ground where you can stick your chord in. http://i32.tinypic.com/2zp4akg.jpg |
You cant have an electric car if i have to help pay for it by subsidies, rebates, deductions, taxes, carbon credits or emissions trading.
great electric cars will come, but only at the very end of the bellcurve. (faceman: are you proud?)
You cant have an electric car if i have to help pay for it by subsidies, rebates, deductions, taxes, carbon credits or emissions trading. You do realise that most Australian made cars are subsidised aswell, just so they keep the manafacturing plants here. |
wow, amazing that the electric car was around so long ago!
Anyone who finds this interesting should watch the 2006 Documentary Movie Who Killed the Electric Car?
You cant have an electric car if i have to help pay for it by subsidies, rebates, deductions, taxes, carbon credits or emissions trading. Yeah sure, like you singularly have any choice in the matter..... |
So the technology has been around for 100yrs, and they are only just now trying to make it mainstream.. very quick progress, well done..
You do realise that most Australian made cars are subsidised aswell, just so they keep the manafacturing plants here. Dont get mne started on Australias Car Industry. Cars have become a form of indirect Taxation. Fines levies rego insurance gst Government could not afford for us to stop worshipping the car. We dont have enough electricity at the moment for home use. Where are we going to find the electricity for millions of electric cars ? Want to stop emissions from cars ? stop driving them. |
Some people are going around in cars that are worth less than what it costs to run them per year.
