The car parts thread prompted me to make this post as I'm genuinely considering getting a 2L milk carton jap ricer.. I've been considering an RX7 or Supra. I'm a bit hesitant though cause it's all 2nd hand and don't want to get reamed by an importer.. Anyone recommend any fully sik importers in Brisbane?
I reckon the RX7's look pretty f***en awesome if done right.. I'm not a drifter, more of a traight line power type guy but will most likely give it a try and get hooked heh.. |
not worth the trouble. plz elaborate.. |
not worth the trouble.plz elaborate.. Rotor's need more rebuilding than the middle east |
yeah unless you have some serious spanner skills and facilitites or some balla cash to pay others to keep fixing your car
i'd pass on the rotary |
downgrading marty? what happened to the 350z (besides being a glorified hair dressers car)? |
nothing wrong with rotors unless you are chasing ridiculous power, you can quite happily get 300rwkw from a 13b without risking your apex seals everytime you touch the loud pedal
f***, if I was 2 feet shorter I'd buy an FD and wet myself at how sexy I would look in it |
+1 for prestige
Why you thinking a supra? They are a whale of a car.. |
you should buy a dark blue r32 gts-t
|
downgrading marty? what happened to the 350z (besides being a glorified hair dressers car)? bought a family car, no time for 350z so dad stole it and cruises around looking at chicks :/ I guess RX-7 will be in the same boat as 350Z.. Nissan GTR's have what, 4 seats? Should fit the family fine :P last edited by Martz at 10:33:55 09/Jul/10 |
oh, so you need a spookmobile - 4 door r32 luls
I'm in a similar boat to you, my mrs will have her car and that will be the family car most of the time but I want to buy myself a nice car too we have the one tot at the moment and i would like to be able to fit them all in, so 4 doors basically it rules out heaps of cars but this is the list I've narrowed mine down to 4 door V35 skyline Toyota Aristo (2jz!@) XR6t sedan Lexus IS250 and 1jz-gte or 2jz-gte swap (they have a 1jz non turbo already so its straight forward) BMW 3 series and either supercharger kit or straight up replace the motor with a 1jz/2jz, alternatively a 1UZfe + supercharger setup would also go alright |
It's more for myself really, just something to thrash around in that will put me in the back of the seat.. I could just steal back the 350z but it's stock and when I was ready to buy a TT kit for it from APS ($16K installed), they discontinued them and CnJ Motorsport sold their last APS kit like a few days before I called them :( I could go Garret but I would have to go through so much bulls*** to make it legit and comply in Australia it's not f*****g worth it (unless someone here knows something I don't?)
So really, I would be happy with a 2 seater. 4-5 seater would be a bonus but not worried about it. I like the G35 skyline, but they have same motor as my 350Z.. Unless I'm able to import a modified turbo one, might try that avenue. last edited by Martz at 10:52:59 09/Jul/10 |
considered an evo?
4 doors and comfortably sits 5 and can be fast and fun |
If I bought an evo, I'd have to buy a new one which is what 80k?? For some reason I wouldn't like to buy a 2nd hand sports car from aus.. I have this assumption that the japs look after their cars better than we do here.. I might be wrong.
|
well u can also start importing under 10 year old evo 7's and above starting from around $20k from japland.
|

i have an evo 7, 2nd owner in aus though but its still good bang for your buck imo.
with a few slight mods can get it to 200kw atw like mine. and its fun enough for what i require. |
nope, nothing wrong with an evo 8/9/10 locally
just buy a 1 or 2 year old one that still has some factory warranty? was the mitsubishi 5 & 10 year power train warranty for all mitsubishis? you dont need to do much to comply a TT kit on a 350z btw, just get a mod plate for it which will cost you $150 ($90 for the plate and $60 for the mod) the only reason I dont consider AWD turbo cars is because they tend to not stand up to brutal treatment of their diffs and gearbox if you're under 6ft you should live out my dream for me an buy a Type-RS R limited edition FD (last of the RX-7s) :( |
what sorta 200 series they looking at?
|
sahara
they've been talking about it for years but I reckon this time might be the clincher - they're going to do the caravan around Australia thing and whilst Dad wanted to get a v8 diesel landcruiser ute to tow a fifth wheeler, mum wanted a bit more luxury every time before this when they have said they're "packing up and going" i have never really taken it seriously, but last night mum was offloading furniture to me and packing boxes so who knows, maybe they're finally going I scored a nice hardwood coffee table = bonus |
nice, my old man has a 200 series Sahara, if they can afford it tell em to get the twin turbo v8 diesel. it f*****g hammers. we test drove the V8 petrol and it went like an old whale

You could buy an S3 if you want to be cool like me, AWD and 240kw. It's also super practical, huge boot, seats 5 easy.
http://members.iinet.net.au/~m.holmes/s3/s3_1.jpg |
yeah he's getting the diesel, we had this discussion the other night
it makes absolutely no sense to buy a big thirsty petrol v8 at all especially considering the reason you normally buy a v8 in a 4x4 is torque, of which the diesel has ample already i'm curious why they only single turbo'd the v8 in the landcruiser, it doesn't make any sense |
Petrol, booo.
This is what I'm getting, '08 VRX. 45,000km. 3.2L TD. bullbar, lights, snorkel, 2nd battery, stiffer&higher springs. Needs different tyres, has cooper discoverer HT Plus on there at the mo, will probably get another set of wheels with some more heavy duty rubber. http://img27.imageshack.us/img27/3134/p6220019.jpg last edited by Red at 12:27:12 09/Jul/10 |
have you considered the daewoo range?
practical, cheap, european styling, i use and recommend!!! |
practical, cheap, european styling, i use and recommend!!! Did you mean to say peon styling? |
indicators on the left, just like your audi!
|
what car is that clubby?
|
looks s*** hot :D
I was looking at getting a Liberty B4, but they are getting old now... |
yeah I hate Audi for indicators on left and wipers on right, drives me insane, but they make up for it in other ways.
|
lol snap |
looks s*** hot :D Has 4 doors and is comfy :P ... been for a cruise in a ummm "slighty" modified one and it had a bit of go. |

my evo 9 went through 3 clutches and the gearbox was going so yeahhh.
The guy I sold it too rang me and was all like so I'm replacing the clutch.. Otherwise it was f*****g awesome fun. |
Evo 9 = License canceller. More than enough to get you into a s***load of trouble.
|
anything petrol and turbo = possible license canceler
i've not had a problem for the last 18 months since gettin my licence back, i generally just cruise these days, don't have as much to prove now like i did when i had the r31 |
agreed pave, most things petrol + turbo these days are potential license cancellers. I find after going to the timeattack days every now & then I dont have the urge to speed barely at all..
Clubby, those wheels aren't the Tuned by STI rims that come on the Liberty's, theyre Clubspec 9 rims (very similar). Also in your liberty that you posted previously I cant see an STI badge on the lip.. And yep, you're right they came in Black (or charcoal) and a polished silver colour. Ive had one of these since new ( best looking WRX to date IMO, slightly biased :)) http://liveimages.redbook.com.au/redbook/car/spec/SUBA0500.jpg last edited by stuffedcrust at 18:33:19 09/Jul/10 |
Whiteline heavy duty adjustable swaybars front and rear, front strut brace and lowered springs. Not really game to get coilovers for my daily driver though. I got all that done like a week after owning it and makes it a totally different car.

1st car - piece of s*** 2nd hand kia rio - hopeless car
2nd car - near new toyota yaris - economical and reliable but boring to drive 3rd car - new (2002) 2.0L turbo aussie spec S15 - wheelspin + sideways = fun 4th car - new (2009) 6.0L V8 SS ute - practicality + muscle = fun I bought an aussie spec S15 (specS) silvia and had it since new and it was a f**n awesome ride. for very little cash u can up the stock 147kw to 200kw with a sinple front mount, exaust, extractors, ECU tune. wish i still had it as it was really good fun. i tried to import a R34 GTR from japan and its so full of fail due to the import tax. plus u dont know what you are getting and there is no promises, no warranty (1yr warranty can be purchased) and no idea how harsh a life it has had. so instead of maintaining my ricer boy racer S15 image I bought a brand new bogun yank tank VE my9.5 SS ute. going from a love of a turbo 2L motor to 6L of thunder was a big jump however i luv the ute just as much, if not more than, the S15. AND the benefit of buying local is warranty and parts! Whilst the fuel consumption is an issue as long as you dont drive like a f**wit 24/7 its ntb. luuuv the ute... imho dont import, buy local. WRX, Evo, XR6T, SS are all great bang for your buck cars. if youre going to dump cash in a car make sure it comes with some peace of mind. |
I'm thinkin about buying a 4.8 litre petrol patrol tows 3.5 tonnel. The 3.2 / 3.0 TD 4 cyl are gutless apparently and the patrol 3.0 tend to blow up. 4.2 would be alright but they dont make em anymore. I gotta be able to tow two big fat money pitt horses around so 3.0L be too weak.
Fuels the major concern though, but the fun :D I wanna do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=voSrJKw8kIY |
the patrol 3.0 tend to blow up.correct |
those rims look really nice evis. guess im lucky having the TB STI model, its got STI suspension all round + random STI arms here and there, more than enough for the street.
Id only put coilovers in any car if I planned on going on the track regularly (6+ times a year) otherwise you tend to get over it. Edit - weedy, i hope you have shares in oil cause a petrol 4x4 is going to be thirsty towing that much weight around. Factory TD 100/80 series ftw. last edited by stuffedcrust at 20:10:19 09/Jul/10 |

Had a fair bit of work put into it :P ... it's fun to drive. |
those rims look really nice evis. guess im lucky having the TB STI model, its got STI suspension all round + random STI arms here and there, more than enough for the street. I got them from a 09 wrx and thought they matched pretty well. There was a tuned by sti at the lot with mine but I couldn't justify the extra monies at the time. I like the wheels that come on those as well. I like that this thread has been taken over by subaru crew lol. |
This turned into a flopping it out in photographs thread hey?
been meaning to do this for a while: http://img62.imageshack.us/img62/6941/img03851024x683.jpg http://img514.imageshack.us/img514/1153/1002686v.jpg Anyways Totally picking up a Subaru R2 STI while I'm over in the nippons - going to be over there for longer than a year so personal import <3 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subaru_R2 last edited by Vorador at 21:00:56 09/Jul/10 last edited by Vorador at 21:02:04 09/Jul/10 |
I know I'm going to cop no end of s*** for this... but if I were going to buy a fuel wasting import, I'd get an American muscle car. Big, loud, spacious and pimp-looking.
If I were going for the Jap car look, I'd probably just buy a locally available Subaru. As previously mentioned, you get all the joy of warranty and easy parts etc while getting something that his hot and sporty. |
Buy import

I nickname it 'the money pit of doom' |
If you want to buy a cheap imported car locally which has a couple of turbo's and a budget well under 10 000 dollars? Have a look at the jzz30 soarer. I picked mine up for 6500 and have since done a 100 000km service and flushed its radiator. A few minor fix here and there as with all mid to late teen cars.
2.5 twin turbo Electric sunroof Electric seats Climate control Adjustable suspension (TEMS dampening only, not ride hight, can only get that on the 1uz v8 models) 180kmh electronic speed limiter 850 dollar 12 month rego bill Wood grain interior (lol) Automatic lights Cruise control TRC and ABS 6.1 speaker sound system Pics from the day i bought it: http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg195/skythra/car/IMG_8893.jpg http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg195/skythra/car/IMG_8894.jpg http://i248.photobucket.com/albums/gg195/skythra/car/IMG_8897.jpg It's not a "fast" car, but it can pull quicker than most commodores. It's still like 1700kgs mostly from things like the 30kg electric seats.. |
it also weights about 3 tonnes!!
|
Yes it's a heavy beast not exactly the best trait for cornering or fuel economy. But it sure is good for long drives :)
Some of the stock soarers are doing 12.5sec passes on the quater which isn't too bad but the full luxary ones are closer to 13.9-14.0. There's a good 200-300kgs between the pov pack and luxary ones. |

Didn't think I'd ever say this BUT
The novelty of having a ext gate/screamer runs out pretty quick. It's loud as s*** in the car but not that loud on the outside. In a track environment anyway. On street, every clown can hear when you hit full boost. So no secret squirrel business can be conducted. :( |
if I could fit in one I'd have one in my driveway, that particular one was slow or had a s*** driver, or both
So no secret squirrel business can be conducted. :( I want to custom build my next exhaust from dump/screamer to tip, no expenses spared kinda deal I'm thinking with some butterfly valves I can set it up to the point where I can press a button and change from a completely legit exhaust system to a screamer and straight pipe from dump ie a 2 foot long stainless pipe dumping under the car last edited by tequila at 13:28:26 11/Jul/10 |
the longer the screamer, the quieter it'll be.
