We used to be the cheapest taking into account fuel as well as rego.
Why is QLD continually going backwards? QLD doesn't earn as much as VIC, CAN or NSW either. So we're worse off. s*** house QUEENSLAND is the most expensive state to own a car, as registration fees and the scrapped fuel subsidy leaves motorists $220 worse off this year. |
$800 for my car, $430 for my bike - sux

Move to Melbourne? We have less sun though.
|
property too expensive in Melbourne....but I guess you get paid more to compensate.
But yeah less sun. But classier chicks ;) |
yeah doubt it.
Cost me close to a grand for green slip and rego NSW is the most expensive, based off no facts or figures :p EDIT: My 4 cyl magna of doom was $285 RTA fee's. Also thank f*** we've scrapped the subsidy, us f*****s in NSW where paying for your fuel ya cheap bastards! |
Inner city prices are stupid, outer city isn't too bad though. A friend of mine bought a place at Hoppers (our Ipswich) for $260k. 4 brm house, 10yrs old, decent sized block (600sqm), AC, gas heating, etc and it's only about 20-25 mins on the freeway into the CBD.
|
you just gotta make more money, because the government's commitment to anally raping us is never ending.
|
S*** that's a fair bit cheaper then here!
Can't be worse than Ipswich. |
citation needed for OP :( although judging from the capitalisation I suspect you are avoiding rage by not posting a news.com.au link. Tough call. What is worse, uncited facts, or a news.com.au link....
|
sorry Trog I should know better.
Can you give me an example? I'll edit the OP. |
courier mail article from june 04, cites RACQ as the authority - http://www.couriermail.com.au/news/queensland/queensland-the-most-expensive-state-to-own-and-run-a-car-says-racq/story-e6freoof-1225875412243

why not leave the cars at home, catch Translink while way to work, Bus & train & Ferry= winning, Car=lose, use Go Card but will be discount % during off-peaks. use Car on weekending for family. Because public transport in Cairns takes 70 minutes to get somewhere I can drive in 14. |

Personally I think this is good news. The more expensive (petrol-based) cars get, the more appealing other options become (like electric cars, better public transport, etc). The feds just need to step up and back some alternatives. My money is on electric cars as the Way Of The Future, personally, although biodiesel doesn't sound like a bad option either from what I can tell (if they can figure out a way to mass produce it effectively)??
|
Maybe the most expensive to move an unregistered car onto the road while doing something in the drive also.
I copped a $500 fine from the freaking council (lol Liberal :D ) for leaving the car locked up on the road for a couple of days. Would've been cheaper for me to get 6 months v8 rego. |
LOL, sif QLD is the most expensive place to own a car....
I've got a 1.8L 4 Cylinder turbo in my car and it costs me close enough to $800 a year to register as it is... (Rego and CTP) I'm not sure how it's worked out in the ACT (I don't think its gigantically different in price to register a 10L V12)... There ya go, in the ACT it's sorted by weight.... http://www.rego.act.gov.au/registrations/regofee.htm Check that s*** out... S*** weather and extortionate rego... I mean, there's bugger all road down her, so it begs the question... where does that money GO exactly? But yeah less sun. But classier chicks ;) Yea rrrocket, they might wear more clothing (in order to deal with the number of seasons on a given day) but that doesn't make them more classy ;) |
No reason to use a car for most day to day travel in Brisbane. Admittedly grocery shopping can suck but just break it up and do a bit everyday. Walking is awesome.
|
I'm getting rid of my coupe and probably going to keep the 4x4 but only register it 6 months at a time in the warmer wather, gf's looking at buying a new small car. Don't really need anything heh. I don't think I have driven the Jeep for 2 months (bus stops across the road from my house and two blocks from my office).
Someone get upset about the council fining me $500... :( |

although biodiesel doesn't sound like a bad option either from what I can tell (if they can figure out a way to mass produce it effectively)?? Don't have time to search for the link atm... but if 1% of 'Farm Land' in the US was put towards Algae for Bio-Diesel in USA. They wouldn't need to use any petrodiesel at all. Though, I'm not sure if they used just Diesel in their figures and not all fuel (Unleaded etc) in order to make themselves look good. |
Its not the roads it goes into, in VIC most of its for TAC, so basically if u stack ur car and nearly kill urself you get free medical expenses. I reckon for those of us who dont have accidents or drive like retards on the roads we should pay 1/4 less each year, let the f***wits who have these accidents time and time again pay an excess each time.
If they cant afford to pay the debt there licence is revoked until they do. Instead the government gives us like $30 or so off renewing our licence every 3 years... oooooo thanks government, your so bloody generous. |
Huh yeah right, you either dont work fulltime or dont have kids.Kids can walk, ride a bike, or catch a bus/public transport to school. And if you take your kids grocery shopping you need a smack upside the head. |
keep the 4x4 but only register it 6 months at a time in the warmer watherCan you even do that though. I think if you let your rego lapse, if you pay it again in a couple of months time, they make you back pay it, or if it lapses too long, you have to get a new RWC before you can register it again. At least I think that's how it was years back when I left mine slide for a while - such a rort. |
I work full time and don't need a car. Do you live slumville Northside or something? :Dpretty sure tradies or anyone doing anything other than sitting on their asses typing code all day need a car |
$970 or there abouts for rego + CTP for car #1 and $600 for rego + CTP for car #2.
|
I work full time and don't need a car. Do you live slumville Northside or something? :D nice one..... we can also claim the tax back on the rego of our vehicle, bringing the cost down. |
Huh yeah right, you either dont work fulltime or dont have kids. I spend 2hr 40min travel time every day about half of that is walking. It's more than I'd like but saves me going to the gym and I get a good amount of reading done. |

At least I think that's how it was years back when I left mine slide for a while - such a rort. Well, it's $60 for a RWC, surely there's a saving in paying 6 months + that over 12. Though I'm sure there'll be a couple of times during the off-period I'd want a large wagon but .. meh. It's just not really worth it. Even thinking about getting rid of both and just using the GF limo ha ha. |
Huh yeah right, you either dont work fulltime or dont have kids.I spend 2hr 40min travel time every day about half of that is walking. It's more than I'd like but saves me going to the gym and I get a good amount of reading done. 5 days a week 48 weeks a year of working weeks: 638.4 Lets say if you could drop your travel time in half by driving so only 338.4 hours a year spent in travel time and say your wage is minimum, $15.00 an hour (min just went up to 15 something) then you're spending 4500 in opportunity cost. ($15.00 x 300 hours) Well if you weigh an hours worth of your time as only 15 dollars worth. I don't know. Maybe you really enjoy that time on the bus so it feels like leisure time. Most people don't really count it "their" time till they get home. |
Can you even do that though. I think if you let your rego lapse, if you pay it again in a couple of months time, they make you back pay itNope you have 30 days (partially because the third party insurance has to give you 30 days leeway to pay your insurance where they'll still cover you). If its longer than that you need to get RWC and to move it around via tow truck or at least go into a suncorp and get comp 3rd party. You remove your plates and hand them in. You pay a "Plate fee" and get new plates and a new rego. So overall if your car is in 100% perfect order (no tail lights are out, no exhaust leaks from scraping the gutter on the way into your driveway etc) then you can get it done for about $100 more than a regular registration. I know this specifically because I have two cars and one just lapsed. It's just been reregistered so i had to go through the whole process. Took 2 hours of waiting at QT. edit: If you get 3rd party on a unregistered vehicle, you can ONLY drive it to the RWC place and then STRAIGHT to Queensland transport. You must have the registration forms filled out in your car and the compulsory 3rd party insurance papers on you too. If you don't you'll go to court. If you drive it unregistered (uninsured) then you'll go straight to court or alternatively pay the cops about 800 dollars in a fine. |
5 days a week 48 weeks a year of working weeks: 638.4 Yeh reading time is leisure time for me and walking time saves me gym membership as I said. You can't really get anythign done except listen the radio whilst driving. |
bastard!!
What about insurance etc or is it completely different in the US of A? |
The Queensland state government is responsible for more kilometres of road than any other state government in the country (maybe even the world... ). It makes sense for rego to cost more if you look at itthat way. If you don't like paying so much rego, get rid of your car or get the hell out of my state.
|

And if you take your kids grocery shopping you need a smack upside the head. Wifey takes the kids shopping if she decides to go and I'm not home (or they just want to go along). If I'm ducking down the shops to get some stuff I'll usually take them along if they want to go for a ride. Its not a problem though as our kids aren't spazzos. |

Just registered our car last weekend
CTP Greenslip: $484 Registration Fees: $486 Pink slip: $100 (had to go through twice as the first mechnic failed it, we think because my wife took it in, second mechanic passed it with flying colours) $1080 total :( 2000 Mitsubishi Challanger 3L V6 |
