Does anyone here have a car trailer that they would lend to a scout group for a few dollars? Or does anyone know someone who would lend one out? Just trying to get our bash car back from regency downs without having to fork out te cash for a tow truck or hire one.
If you could let me know that would be great Cheers, |
towrope
serious it's legal and free provided you follow a few conditions |
2nd car must be regstered?? ^^ also, probley not a good solution to get it from regency downs (near gatton) back to stafford
|
2nd car must be regstered??no. but it must be in driveable condition and why not, either risk it or stump up with some cashish for a trailer from the servo |
Really I'm pretty sure they dropped the legality of it a while back, we used to do it all the time back home in NZ ... :) we got heaps good cars back home.
havn't done it in aus for over 7 years, suprisingly since I've owned a rangie for alot of that time :) I even drove it to work and back a couple times when it was only running on 4 cylinders(its a v8) years ago, was going on the ipswich motorway, never knew if we'd make it or not(used to drive a flatmate to work aswell). |
towrope I was told rope is illegal, it needs to be a stiff bar that can't bend. Don't ask me why, that's just what I was told not that I care, I still tow my cars with a tow strap. |

yup, thats right hoggy
just remember guys, checking facts always beats 'pretty sure' |
And you can only tow with a rope for a short distance otherwise it becomes obstruction for other drivers etc.
Say there is a car broken down in the turn right line, you can't just be a nice guy and other the guy a tow around the corner so traffic can free flow or you get fined unless you explain to the officer that it was a hugely dangerous area to be broken down in. |
If you have something big enough to tow a car on a car-trailer it would be s*** loads cheaper then a flatbed. A lot of servo's have them sitting there, it shouldn't be hard to find one to hire.
Being that it's a 'Bash car' I doubt that it's in either road condition or registered (both required to tow with a rope) and it seems like a long distance as well. Probably why the OP asked for a lend of a Car Trailer. |
Last time a mate hired a car trailer (Was a few months ago now) it cost 90$ for the 'weekend' which I think was 36 hours. It might be a lot for a scout group, but cheaper then getting a Tow Truck.

I was told that by a police officer when I stopped to tow some random who had broken down in the turn right lane near the sets of lights near algester where they are building the new train overpass. He said he let me off because where he had broken down meant he couldn't be seen by motorists coming around the corner from the last set of lights. I'll try and find a proper source, but the officer might just have been wrong.

the legislation says nothing about current registration being a requirement for a towed vehicle
S294 & S295 |
Does the legislation say anything about an unregistered vehicle being on the road in the first place?
Oh wait, you're retarded. |

Moral of the story don't stop to help people :P
There are a lot of servo's which hire car trailer's on the cheap, under a hundred for a weekend plus a hundred deposit which you get back. Just make sure you have your own chains to go with it. If no one can help that would be the cheapest option. |
the legislation says nothing about current registration being a requirement for a towed vehicle Ugh. Other requirements |
in the little information document from qld transport in 2005 it says that
but the legislation in 2009 makes no mention of that being a requirement |
Thanks guys for the replies and PM's.
The car is most definitely not in road worthy condition and is not registered. Our car can be seen at 35seconds into the video. End of the day we have managed to score a car trailer for $50 bucks for the weekend, so we are happy about that. |
