Parts + slab .. it's the least you can do.
|
Use his old age against him by deceiving him into thinking that whilst servicing your car he did some damage to it. Charge him money to repair said damage.
... this was a 'qgl' survey right? |
Get him a slab/bottle of something good.
|
So you want your dad to pay for the parts and service your car? You f***en cheap skate. Of course you should pay for the parts and you should also buy your dad dinner or have a BBQ in his honor.
|
i hook him up big time.......... as much free busking as he can handle? |
My dad doesn't drink alcohol, but If I did it, in some make-believe future, it would be nice to receive a slab for my time.
Shouldn't even conceder not paying for/buying the parts, that's stupid. He's helping you and going out of pocket to do it... |
if it was me, i wouldn't be so f*****g useless and do my own oil and air filter
|
When my old man gets to service my car he gives ME beer. And petrol, no s***.
|
Let her know that I would give her a service for free.
Servicing the car is going to cost though. |
I speak on behalf of QGL. We're touched you consider us friends mooby.
|
she goes "non of your other friends dads would make them pay"true. my dad (and this is probably true for many of us) wouldn't make me pay (or even ask for payment) cause he's such a champ. But I'd insist on paying, because what sort of tight arse takes advantage of his dad like that? |
If your old man serviced your car, would you expect to pay for the parts?I accidentally the survey. |
I'd say just pay for parts. Drain oil, chuck on air filter while the sump is emptying and then refil should take less than 15 minutes.
Also I left a bottle of Scotch at my parents and he drank it all so he owes me IMO. |
as said before, its not f*****g me. having a disbute with the missus. she goes "non of your other friends dads would make them pay"I've had the same problem with my wife, she couldn't understand why I would want to give my brother a slab to borrow his mates van to have me and him help her mother move a fridge. Every male in the vicinity looked at her like she had 3 heads. edit: And! She said "well, if I'd known it was going to cost a carton of beer I wouldn't have done it". Which essentially means... "My mother could leave the fridge where she bought it." or "I would prefer to hire a ute and give some stranger more money than give my brother-in-law some beer." last edited by Mantra at 21:46:01 22/Mar/10 |
he's your Dad dude..
you're a man now - send Mom and Dad on a nice holiday it doesn't have to be expensive - hire him a houseboat for a week to do some fishing on the Tweed or something. Pick something he never made the time for that ya know he'd like, then talk your Mom into why it's a great idea for him to go do it with his mates ;) |
The f*** koopz? Are you made of money. He said he was a professional, he didn't say he had no responsibilities so how should he best shower gifts on the old chap!
Pay for the parts. If he doesn't except money then buy him a nice bottle of plonk or what have you. |
parts + gift or nominal fee. anything else gtfo.
|
of course you would pay for parts, and while not necessarily give a slab, damn well show your appreciation!
|
iWhoop got it 100% right.
edit: unless you are in financial difficulties and the old man has done it to help you out and save you money.. (and you both know it etc)! |
i say parts and slab/some other good gesture of appreciation
mrs hardware agrees, of course |
Just had a similar thing happen to me where I got this retired mechanic to swap out a motor for me.
He asked for $250 however considering he basically just saved me a few grand I gave him $400. Same deal my mrs couldn't understand why but it I took it to a shop to get done it woulda cost me $4k. This guy did it for $250 labour and the recon'd motor was $700. Women are just noobs when it comes to cars. |
I just charged my brother 50 dollars and the cost of supplies to service his vehicle. The very LEAST you can do is give him a slab.
Why? Because once you service someone's car, anything that goes wrong before they service it again is apparently your fault. No f*** that. He asked for $250 however considering he basically just saved me a few grand I gave him $400.Uh. what? No matter how good he is, he's losing more money than time in doing that. It takes 8 hours to swap a perfect engine for a broken one. I think you should be sucking him off considering he will take the blame when you have a complaint. |
Personally I'd pay for parts, and then add something extra for his time (be it cash, dinner, alcohol). But then my dad can't maintain a care, let alone fix it... he's had to perform an overhaul on 2 new cars (well, more precisely, he had to pay for the 2 overhauls... someone else performed it).
|
How could you not pay for parts?!
In fact, if he's retired and at his age, I would take a blunt stab in the dark as to say it's unlikely he's loaded with a big superannuation nest-egg given the lack of existence (or mandatory need to pay in to) superannuation in his prime working years... So, why the hell would you ask anybody who's just making ends meet pay your bills, let alone your own father or father in-law? That's disgusting morals and ethics. Sounds like "the missus" is a real winner =/ If your father is rolling in money and has millions of dollars and your struggling, I would expect its a non-issue. But this doesn't sound the case. last edited by Mephz at 09:58:41 23/Mar/10 |
and this is why i found a woman that 'thinks right'
the vast majority of women fail at critical thinking and logic i have 0 time for them |
and this is why i found a woman that 'thinks right' "i was a virgin till i met my wife" |
looks like you fail at logic too greazy
|
he didn't say air filter teq
K&N make oil filters too, also now with spanner-nut on the bottom for ease of removal |
Of course you do parts + token gesture gift / favour in return.
I've had my in-laws sneak in freebies like a car battery last year because the business was a bit up and down. They may have even paid for the boy's tuition for a term as I can't seem to work out where that money came from, wifey reckons it was some of the child rebate / tax benefit stuff but I am unsure. I am really awkward and rage about it so have been pimping their computers etc. |
"i was a virgin till i met my wife" ...and now you're really f***ed? |
no, but even for sarcasm it's a bit crass
