Test drove this bad boy on Friday arvo whilst waiting for my 350z service.. this thing in person is f*****g mean... Extremely solid car, despite the weight the handling is extremely responsive and goes where you want it to.. Launch that baby and your planted deep in the back of the seat (like any turbo car but better) and the manager almost shat his pants but I think he was more worried about cops as we were on ipswich road :/ plenty of room in the front for the tall boys but barely enough to fit ya small kids in the back.. I sat in the back and there was no room for my head and had to tilt sideways and leg space was non existant, but you don't buy a $180k sports car for the back seats...

The GTR beats all ya porches, lambo's, ferraris etc etc around the nurburgring and I could see why..

We're having an "impression off" here huh? My first impressions came first BAM.

Didn't quiet like its look at first, it's like a 350z crossed with a porcher on its side, but its look is growing on me.

I bet test driving it has suddenly made you unsatisfied with your 350z.

It'd be like watching A grade porn then comparing it with bedroom activities with your wife.

The biggest problem with the Nissan R35 GTR is the fact it's a Nissan.

$180k? NEXT. Seriously, you're a wanker for buying one just because it's faster than other more exotic brands (unless you'll be racing it).

But props to Nissan for building them and bringing them to the Australian market.

actually to be honest with you matchfixer, around town the GTR is a tad boring to drive, you don't get to enjoy what it was designed for, it just feels like a big lump of solid steel!! you really need to take it onto the track and give it everything and push it to it's limits and that's where the GTR starts talking and one will wet his pants.. so yeah the 350z is in fact more exciting in suburbia if that makes sense but could have more power..

mission, not having a go at ya cause I can understand where you coming from, but if you had $180k what would you buy instead?

Without consulting a price book, so forgive me if there is some variance but on my list would be (in no particular order):

M series BMW
AMG Benz
Porsche 911? Caymenne (whatever it is)
Audi S series

They just come to mind, no doubt others I'm not thinking about.

Sure the Nissan may be faster but c'mon, we live in Australia where speed limits are low so, unless you're breaking the law or on a race track, the extra performance a GTR offers is kind of useless isn't it?

But as I said good work by Nissan (I used to be a bit of a fan of the original 'Godzilla') but there are so many other better options in my opinion.

$163,000 for the M3 Coupe.
$145,000 for the C63 AMG.
You are into the $200,000's for the Porsche (which is the whole idea of the GTR's pricing to begin with)

lol, being an R35 fan, I've probably read 99% of all the reviews that are out there.. It has mixed reviews, but some stated that yes it's a boring drive if you're going down to the corner shop to pick up a loaf of bread... and some stated it's the best sports car ever.. It's all just an opinion..

And owning a 350Z and having test driven the GTR extensively, I have more clue than you f***wit.

I agree with you here. I've seen plenty of the reviews of the Nissan, and seen a couple in person (although I haven't driven/been in one), and while I'm sure its excellent around a track... How often do you take it around a track? If I was going to spend that much on a car, I would prefer something like an M3... because:
1) It looks better and more polished (IMO)
2) Might not be as fast/powerful as the GTR, but it still packs a punch
3) I trust BMW a lot more than Nissan to make a quality car (in terms of interior, general build quality etc)
4) Would have some change left over to spend on hookers etc

Well for one, its a LOT more power than a standard 3 series... 0-100km quoted time is 4.1 seconds. Inside they are really immaculate... it's just an extremely well rounded and polished car.

I can think of about a billion things I'd rather spend $180k on than a car. You could travel around the whole planet and see just about everything on that sort of money. I'd much rather do than that buy a contraption I'm going to sit in an hour a day, tops..

well if you can afford a $180k car, then generally you can already afford to see the whole planet and possibly mars...

to buy a gtr and live off bread and butter for the next 20 years whilst you pay it off is just plain retarded and I don't see any validity in what you said.

The m3s aren't meant to be stand out 'hey look at me' type cars, they have that sleeper look, which is why alot of people like them compared to some of the other performance coupes/sedans around the place.

Same thing with the M5, apart from the grille, bigger wheels and 4 pipes most people wouldnt have a clue, until you put the foot down!

ok ok fair enough. but a car being a boring drive down to the shops is gonna depend on how youre driving it isnt it. i could own a bugatti veyron and if i didnt touch the throttle to the corner shop it would be a boring drive.

again that's just a matter of opinion, one of the best things I ever did was buy a 350z.. Not everyone has to like what you like, each to their own... Imho, I would never spend my money on a Holden, they are bogan made, cheap quality pieces of s***. some people here wouldn't agree with that, and that is cool and I'm not gonna abuse them for thinking differently than me.

there are only a handful of reported gearbox failures and most of them (if not all) have f***ed up due to people using LC1 (launch control version 1) over and over again down the quarter mile until the first gear s**** itself.. PPG have since manufactured a stronger replacement first gear kit to handle the load. For everyday drivers like you and I, even people that will solely race the GTR on the race track will not have gearbox problems.. Again, it's only a few gearbox failures out of how many thousands of GTRs..

Am I the only one who cares more about how much I like a car then other people? haha.

My sterio is setup to sound good inside the car, not drive around showing off. I don't add stupid looking body kits that add next to nothing to the drive of the car. I don't add silly 1mm profile tyres and 22" rims that add nothing (and actually subtract from the day to day ride) to how well the car drives. The only stickers I have on my car is to advertise a website I run (no shopping lists, I don't buy 1 HKS spark plug so I can put a HKS sticker on my car).

What people think as I drive past is on the very bottom of my list of things I want out of a car.

The difference between a beemer and a Nissan is the quality of the build, interior and extensive safety and technical zomg-worthy features. The singer in our rock n roll band owns a 2006-odd 7 series and its f*****g AMAZING inside.

Just about the safest, most comfortable, extensively-decked out driving experience you can imagine. Given that they're a "limousine" series. That being said, the 7 series isn't their "sports car" range.

Good point. I reckon 50% of these are going to end up with a BoV, huge exhaust, huge stereo and a shopping list on the front guards yet do not much more then hang out at maccas or drive up and down the M1 :D

Though there's a fair few videos on youtube of the GT-R being beaten by many different makes/models on different tracks. Guess it all depends on who is driving what.

Pretty sure the r35 has just as crazy tech features as an m3.

I would be pretty happy with a 335i. Goes pretty well when you put your foot down (twin turbo, bmw quote ~5.5 to 60) drives like any other car the rest of the time and looks plain enough to not have to worry about parking it in public. Got to drive one over glorious and realistically, I dunno how 'normal' people could really use any more power than it has on a public road.

They need to let this GTR out with the V8's... The 32 shamed them before...

In other news, they expected General Motors to make an announcement this evening that they are declaring for bankruptcy. Insiders suggest GMH will be sold off as a provate entity. So no Chevrolet for Holden to steal engine's from? We may see Holden buying Japanese.. or even better.. Ford made engine's inside future Holden models.

haha yeah i was watching the v8 yesterday and they have a gt-r safety car!

i was watching it with my girlfriends dad(who is diehard ford) and i was like.. damn he should put his foot down he'd kill all those pieces of s***

and he was like "yeah right mate, do those things make 600hp (as in gloating what the supercars make

i went

i said nah they only make around 500hp dead stock but they would smoke all those cars around the track! his face went :(

As much as I love the GTR's,the current V8 Supercars will kill a stock GTR around the track imo. I'm prety sure it beats it over the mountain.

I would love to see a V8 supercar go around the nurburgring, that would really put things into perspective, not to mention a good lol

the v8 supercars would edge out a stock 35 GTR around a track (prob a few seconds a lap in it). Remember, the v8's have been stripped down to 1350 kg's and are putting out around 600hp. Thats ~150 more hp and 350kg less than a GTR. But then if you could throw even half of what they spend on the v8's every year into tweaking and lightening a GTR and it would be faster. (i think about $500k per year is spent on a v8 supercar).

GTR was tested around Bathurst and did a 2:25 lap time, the V8's do 2:08's all day long, it's an annihilation. So people genuinely thinking a stock GTR could wipe the floor of a V8 supercar need a reality check.

Get the thing race prepped and it might be a different story but that will never happen. Bring back the super tourers I say!!!

Yeah, and strap a turbo on the v8's and remove all the regulations they have on the engines, and i'm pretty sure they would be even faster, buts its a silly comparison anyway.

I would never spend my money on a Holden, they are bogan made, cheap quality pieces of s***. some people here wouldn't agree with that, and that is cool and I'm not gonna abuse them for thinking differently than me.

Wait, are you trying to say a 350z is a refined well built car? Aren't they the ones with kitchen cupboard door handles on them?

kitchen cupboard door lol what?? you idiot haha... I don't see how that compares to the nissans door handle, which mind you is very unique and doesn't look like all the millions of other boring door handles out there. also if you don't like the styling of the door handle it doesn't mean the 350z is not a refined and well built car, your commenting on your opinion of aesthetics lol. The GTR door handle is quote unique too, but it's a 2 step process just to open the door :/

btw yes the 350z is a refined and well built car... not everyone has to like it though.

it has less power than my 3.0 twin turbo diesel!
and my keyfob stores my seat, headrest and steering wheel position, climate control settings, stereo settings, rearview and side mirror settings etc so when my wife drives it and it adjusts for her, it magically goes back as soon as I walk up and pull the door handle which unlocks automagically upon detecting the keyfob in my pocket. and yeh, button press to stop/start when it detects keyfob inside cabin

awww yeh
