Cue your most disappointed sounding Zoidberg noises: precisely ten years after it was first cancelled by Fox, it looks like Futurama has been cancelled... again http://www.wired.com/underwire/2013/04/futurama-cancelled-again/ Does anyone still watch Futurama? I lost interest years ago, more than that I'm surprised the Simpsons is still going. |
The latest season was horrible, think they made the right call to ditch it originally (in hindsight, i yelled like everyone else to bring them back, but they kind of sucked on the return).
|
sucky news. i've enjoyed watching the newest seasons.
|
Surely it can't be worse than The Simpsons.

good. the elitist memes about being a noob unless you'd seen 10 seasons and not gotten all the interlinking jokes and subtleties were sucking anyway. |
It's sucked since they brought it back, just like Family Guy has too. Lets hope Arrested Development doesn't continue that trend.
|
My theory is that people don't enjoy new episodes as much as the old ones because they haven't seen them three or four times each to actually get the jokes properly.
Go watch Simpsons season 22 episode 11; once now, once in a couple of months, and once more after 6 months. See if the theory holds! Futurama is still great, I hope they reuncancel it. |
They should just go to Netflick and make it a streaming only option. Netflick seems to have a moderate success at creating their own contents lately so why not get something like this (or say Firefly) and add that to their subscription? I reckon they'd go alright.

Family guy got better on its return..

Your theory is wrong. The evidence suggests otherwise. |
In all seriousness I love The Simpsons and wouldn't just decide to hate it for no reason. I remember around season 12 I started to think something was up, and I watched it through to about season 18 before I decided that it was s***. I still watch the occasional new episode and they are pretty much all terrible. The animation is the greatest thing that has suffered. While a lot of The Simpsons used to be hand-drawn and charming for that reason it is just too perfect and personality free now.
But what really suffers is the jokes. This is a personal thing, but I don't think The Simpsons survived its transition from 90s humour to 2000s humour. The 90s was a relatively carefree decade where everyone was rich and tolerance towards other people was at an all time high, as evidenced by this screenie from an early Simpsons episode. http://i.imgur.com/vF1HPpe.jpg 2000s was the decade that everyone started to hate each other again, and become really poor and desperate. The Simpsons style of humour (imo) just didn't translate to this new s***** decade. I guess hindsight is 20/20 and the show must still be profitable (and they won't cancel it till it's no longer profitable, just ask Troy McClure) but they should have done a Beatles or Seinfeld and just killed it when it was still pure quality around season 9. |
Understandable.
I was going to make the point that some later episodes focus more on story than comedy, but there are episodes like that in the early seasons too so they're all essentially the same. I'd be interested to hear what you think of Season 22 Episode 11. It's not the best, it's just the last one I watched that made me laugh. If you honestly don't laugh, then fair enough, but give it a go at least. |
meh, futurama has saddly run it's course
it was good, but the lack of support has killed it overtime first run, great, DVD sales meant it came back, but TBH loses something each long pause between seasons, it could be disinterest because you HAVE to follow what is happening to it in order to see it when it comes out same thing is killing top gear |
I'd be interested to hear what you think of Season 22 Episode 11I'll check it out. |
simpsons can't get away with what it used to.. You watch some old episodes and they poke fun at really non PC stuff.
These days the episodes feel too fast for me, just one liner after one liner with plots doing nothing but set up for the next joke |
Go watch Simpsons season 22 episode 11 watched this ep this morning, didnt do it for me. i dunno if i could be bothered to watch it again. what did you find special about it? |
Never liked simpsons or futurama. I do think american dad is pretty good but wish i understood more of the issues/events/people that family guy refers to.
|
what did you find special about it? It wasn't special it's just an episode that got a few laughs out of me. Seems the same quality as the earlier seasons. Like ... Moe's gets turned into a gay bar. Lenny - hey something's different about Moe's, there's no chicks here. Carl - there's never any chicks here. Lenny - but somehow there's more no chicks here than usual. Patty (or Selma?) to the trannies - What's wrong with her voice? Tranny - Steve, is that you? Moe - all right good point ah but let's hear from angel Moe. Supposed devil Moe - I am angel Moe. * Devil Moe appears and kills supposed devil Moe Homer carving the fake pretzel out of the bench "ah, got one!" *eat* *choke* Bart - What am I doing here, Seymour, the thing I'm planning hasn't even gone off yet. *Willie drives tractor into hole* That wasn't me and you're my alibi. Just a bit of a laugh, which is what most Simpsons episodes are. I'll rewatch the later seasons and find the funniest episodes and report back at some point. |
