So I just had an album described to me by someone who said they've been trying to find it for years without success
The way he described it is like its a collaboration of sounds recorded in San Francisco, like an old school chill out album
Mix in a bit of rain and thunderstorms with various sounds like the trolley cars etc
This would have been from the 1960s/1970s or there abouts, possibly earlier as he was a teenager when he was listening to it.
phwoar I thought you had it then, but apparently its totally instrumental and it's from a completely obscure artist
Skrillex - Bangarang EP
Does he mean like Mike Oldfield style?
he said it was "a very obscure artist that you've (me) probably never heard of before"
it's 100% instrumental, it was right around the 1960s as he recalls because it was on a reel to reel tape
Teq - no lie here, call JB Hi Fi Toowoomba and ask for Steve in Music, this guy is OLD and knows more about music, possibly, than any other living being on the planet. From that description he could possibly give you the band name and album name and then some history on them 2!
Is it anything like Robert Fripp or Brian Eno's earlier work/colabs? Rock, ambient or progressive?
I am going with mental, Mike Oldfield
he said it was "a very obscure artist that you've (me) probably never heard of before"Lol hipster f*****.
I'll run a few of these ideas past him tomorrow, so far no luck though
the key themes I'm looking for would be the sounds of rain + trams (from San Francisco)
He's tried to find it before without any luck and he's computer-smart, so I'm not entirely sure we're going to have any luck here
I posted it on r/sanfrancisco too, see what that turns up
Deviouz you may be on to a winner there, I'll report back with my findings!
Idk, sounds like there is spoken word in that peice, but that guy and the 'scene' did alot of ambient stuff aparently
if he wants to chill, get him a Röyksopp cd!
tubular bells comes to mind too
<3 Röyksopp - so awesome
