With the official statement from Bethesda and id Software noting, "To make sure we’re delivering the best experience -- for DOOM Eternal to live up to our standards of speed and polish -- we’ve made the decision to extend our launch date by a few months to March 20, 2020." Which is both disappointing and admirable - as now the original November 22 launch date will have to be spent doing something else.
Like, replaying DOOM (2016).
But yes, delaying a release to ensure it's polished and to the high standard we all expect is never a bad thing. Especially when it comes to what is without a doubt one of our most anticipated releases. The full statement, as per below, also confirms that Invasion Mode - where players can possess a demon and enter another person's campaign will arrive shortly after launch. Alongside the re-release of DOOM 64 on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
Throughout the development of DOOM Eternal, our goal has been to deliver a game that exceeds your greatest expectations across the board.
Interestingly even with the delay the Switch release will come at a later date. With DOOM Eternal now a 2020 release, next year is looking to be something truly special - even outside of the planned PlayStation 5 and Xbox Scarlett holiday lunches.
I'm actually OK with this, got a few games coming up in late October and November anyway and this will fill in the gap between Last of Us 2 and Cyberpunk 2077 :)
