With the international version set to launch in Hong Kong soon, with one of the goals being to highlight Chinese-developed games globally. WeGame, from Tencent, went live last September in China and like Valve's Steam offers communication tools and access to a library of PC games.

“The Hong Kong version of WeGame is now under development,” said a spokesman for Tencent. “This version will be available for overseas users, and we will use this platform to bring more Chinese games to the global market.”

Although it's one of the largest game companies in the world the WeGame service from Tencent, with roughly 220 titles to download, has a long way to go before it could reach the 20,000 plus titles on Steam and Valve's player-base of over 40 million daily users. This news might also be a direct response to the upcoming Steam China which Valve is working on with another Chinese entertainment giant - Perfect World.

Also, as Tencent owns sizable stakes in developers Riot Games, Epic Games, Glu Mobile, and Activision Blizzard, there's a good chance WeGame will grow significantly in the near future.
