And it comes from Vostok Games, including some of the team behind the excellent S.T.A.L.K.E.R.. Available to play July 19 via Steam Early Access, Fear the Wolves is very much a modern Battle Royale in its setup. Parachute into a large map among 100 players to fight for survival. But set in the irradiated ruins of Chernobyl, fending off mutant animals and the creeping threat of radiation to reach an extraction helicopter adds a new flavour.

As the radioactivity of an area worsens, reality begins to break down. Dangerous areas distort and enter flux as they pulse with radiation. In the early stages, the adrenaline from sprinting will stop you taking damage, but after that only gas masks and hazard suits will keep the poisonous air and deadly rays out. You are never safe, but you can be more protected than your enemies, using this advantage to access areas they can’t, to loot more and flank them.

It certainly sounds interesting, even though the footage we see in the trailer above is a little heavy on the head-bobbing. Fending off packs of mutant wolves and using radiation gear to venture into dangerous areas for loot make this one to keep an eye on. A full release is expected sometime this year on PC, with console versions to follow.
