With both this announcement and the current crop of classic SNK arcade and Neo-Geo releases, the Nintendo Switch for all intents and purposes is itself a Virtual Console. Just one without classic NES, SNES, and N64 games. Yet. Sega Ages, the new line of Sega classics for Switch launches this winter.

With the first batch of titles including Sega Master System versions of Phantasy Star and Alex Kidd in Miracle World, Sega Mega Drive versions of Thunder Force IV and Sonic the Hedgehog, as well as a port of the original arcade version of Gain Ground.

All port duties are being handled by Japanese studio M2, the team behind the excellent Sega Classics range available for the Nintendo 3DS. Excellent in that the focus is in pixel-perfect recreations of Sega titles from the Master System, Mega Drive, and even arcade.

No word on pricing, but if we had to take a guess we'd put these in the range of $5-10 each. Well, that's more of a what we'd like them to be priced versus any sort of educated market research.
