Go back in time, and we're talking almost 20 years now, and any new console release happened alongside a string of Mad Catz branded peripherals. From controllers to magnifying bits of plastic you put on a Game Boy to make the screen look bigger than it was. And now, after brief stint with bankruptcy and being bought up by a Chinese holding company - Mad Catz is back!

With CES 2018 being the place Mad Catz will be previewing the first products in its new range. A line of PC gaming hardware including new R.A.T. mice, S.T.R.I.K.E. keyboards, F.R.E.Q. gaming headsets and G.L.I.D.E. gaming surfaces.

“We couldn’t be more excited than to begin 2018 by announcing the return of Mad Catz to the global gaming arena. Mad Catz has been a permanent fixture in gaming for almost three decades and we firmly believe it’s best days lie ahead,” said Selena Chang, Director of Sales and Operations for Mad Catz Global Limited. “Through listening to gamers worldwide, we plan to once again forge a path of innovation in the gaming hardware community, and we’re already working on delivering products which we believe will enhance gamers’ abilities and do justice to the Mad Catz name. We can’t wait to unveil a little more at CES 2018 and in the months to come."

We have no idea what all these names as acronyms might stand for, and the press release basically repeats them all a bunch of times so we'll just have to assume that you know. And that you'll tell us.

Anyway the mouse sounds pretty interesting as it offers wireless performance via power obtained directly from its gaming surface - i.e. fancy mouse-pad. No word yet on console peripherals. Word is that this new Mad Catz will play it a lot safer, so don't expect EB Games to be flooded with Nintendo Switch magnifying screen attachments anytime soon.

Funny was talking to a mate who is still rocking an old MC mouse and loves it the other day. Good luck to them.
