With another seasonal gift giving period as mandated by the old gods over, many a person or robot impersonating a person got a PlayStation 4 or Xbox One as a present. Or simply, went out to buy one like an adult. Either way as both consoles come with trial subscriptions to their online services, which are just about mandatory requirements these days, that makes the January offerings of freebies something to take note of.

With PlayStation 4 owners and PlayStation Plus subscribers getting the one-two impressive punch of Deus Ex: Mankind Divided and Batman: The Telltale series. Impressive.



One the Xbox One front, the Games with Gold line-up for January includes The Incredible Adventures of Van Helsing III and ZOMBI - two decent if not exactly post-holiday slices of awesome freebies like the PS Plus duo. But, on the plus side thanks to backwards compatibility Xbox One owners also get the Xbox 360 duo of Tomb Raider: Underworld and Army of Two.



For the rest of us there's still the backlog of Steam sale acquisitions and other games still shrink-wrapped to get through.
