Hey guys,
I've been using my Astro A40s and the mixamp for about two years now and the headset is starting to stuff up and I was wondering if you guys could help me out a little bit by suggesting a few good alternatives that are not gaming headsets. Thanks!

These Audio-Technica ATH-W5000 seem like the headphones that a sophisticated man about town like you're self would appreciate and there only $1200.

Very helpful zaraq. How much do you want to pay Slade? The Plantronics Rig 500 is $99 base and it does the job alright considering the price. It's customisable as well, so you can swap in new ear cups and stuff if you wind up wanting to pay a bit more. Full disclosure though, Plantronics and I are wrapping up a deal where they sponsor my podcast.

PornoPete, i have the bayers and yes they are totally quality for the price.

In current use a combination of modmic (google ant lion) and 3 sets of headphones depending on what I want from the.

Audiotechnica ad900x, open backed. Bass is low but sound stage is amazing. If you play FPS style games, these own.

VMODA m100 For a more cinamatic experience (think games like dues ex, mass effect or rts's) , awesome bass and great immersion.

NAD visio for any music games (i use on rocksmith mainly) for a more enclosed intimate feel.

All three have amazing sound and are around 200-300aud

Yeah but I was up front about it.

This post brought to you by the smashing treble and smooth bass in the new Plantronics RIG 500. Taste the rainbow.

I have been using some Plantronics for years and they have been great (they were from a review ages back). They've started getting a bit flaky sometimes - the volume control thing on there seems to muck up the left channel, so I have to sometimes mess with it to make sure I'm getting the speakers on both sides to work. But I've gotten great mileage out of them & they've worked flawlessly. Good sound quality and the mike works every time. I want to say they're about six years old but suspect they're even older.
