Playing the Beta for Elder scrolls Online, and when i'm out questing or in low pop PVP zones i'm getting about 60-75 FPS. However when there gets to be 20+ people on screen it can drop to 11.2 - 21 FPS. (this is all on medium settings which is about as low as comfortable going, low just looks bad)

I was thinking that its probably my PC that is the issue, the min specs for the game are:

Operating System: Windows 7 64-bit or Windows 8 64-bit
Processor: Quad Core 2.3GHz or equivalent processor
Memory: 4GB System RAM
Hard Disk Space: 60GB free HDD space
Video Card: Direct X 11 compliant video card with 2GB of RAM (NVIDIA® GeForce® 560 Ti / ATI Radeon™ 6950 or better)
Sound: DirectX compatible sound card

Operating System: Windows XP 32-bit
Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz or equivalent processor
Memory: 2GB System RAM
Hard Disk Space: 60GB free HDD space
Video Card: DirectX 9.0 compliant video card with 512MB of RAM (NVIDIA® GeForce® 8800 / ATI Radeon™ 2600 or better)
Sound: DirectX compatible sound card

[ What I Have]

Motherboard: HP h8-1130a
Processor: Intel Core i7-2600 @ 3.40GHz
Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 530
Win 7 64-bit

***PLEASE NOTE I'M NOT LOOKING TO PLAY THIS GAME ON ULTRA OR ANYTHING****** i just want to get my FPS to at least 30 when in a hi pop PVP zone.

The few PC stores i have gotten quotes from are all wanting to give my machine a complete overhaul, to the tune of close to 2K. But when quotes to improve my FPS include upgrades to my sound card I'm starting to think there selling me much more than i need.

I'm not looking to upgrade my entire rig, but do i actually need to, in order to run this game the way i want? or are they overselling?

Although i know enough about PC's to know this is most if not all the info you'll need, i don't know much about them in all, please reply in VERY layman's terms

Kind regards,

That should be fine to play how you intend on playing. They are overselling, that's what they do - sales.

The video card is the only thing I would even consider upgrading, that and maybe if you do not have an SSD hard drive.

the real killer is the video card dude, it is the bare minimum that will run it

your best beat (bang for buck) would be something like a gtx660, or gtx760 the only other thing that might need to be looked at might be to make sure your power supply unit can handle the extra power draw

$2k for an overall is a complete and utter rip-off and you should avoid those shops in future,

(dont fear about the video card, it is an easy to install thing yourself, or cheaply done by any computer store not wanting to rip you off)

Id say at the very least only the video card will need upgrading.
Probably upping to a 650ti would give you playable framerates.
The only other thing I could suggest is your net connection may be bottlenecking when you get multiple players together, (Im no expert but just my opinion).
Hope this helps.

I'd go for the GTX 760, should be about $300-400.

What about the motherboard his running? HP? I've never bought anything HP nor have I had it recommended to me. Couldn't possibly be the best mobo to run high quality, high powered video and PSU on.

That GT 530 card must struggle to play new games. That's the thing I'd be changing first.

EDIT: Is that a Hewlett Packard PC? Aren't they a b**** to add new hardware to? Or was that just the old ones from way back?

As previously stated your main problem is your video card.

Given you probably only have a 300W power supply you are looking at needing to get both a video card and power supply.

Something like a 600-700W power supply and a Nvidia GTX 760. Should be about $400-450 for both depending on what is available there.

600W is op for a GTX 760.

Consider a GTX 750ti. 60 watt TDP and no PCI connector. Your 300W PSU will handle it.

I'm still rocking a AMD 955BE OC'd, that is what I would consider the bare minimum for gaming now, a cpu passmark score of about 4800 give or take a bit. Running a 560Ti OC'd.

I need a new CPU :(
