Hi guys, So i have $6400.00 to spend tomorrow/tuesday on a new computer just before christmas. I want it for a gaming computer, so far the system im looking at building is at $5400.00

The SSD is obviously for operating system and game installs, 2 of the nas drives are for raid mirror for storage and the left over hdd is for system snapshots and additional backup.

* Change H80i to H100i or even H110i.

* Take out 16GB of RAM.

* Use this RAM: G.Skill Trident X F3-2400C10Q-16GTX 16GB (4x4GB) DDR3
^ Good chance you'll get 2133 or 2400Mhz out of it.

* Consider changing Sabertooth mobo to Rampage 4 Formula.

* Change Titan for 1x GTX780Ti (cheaper, faster) , or 2x GTX780 (faster again), or even 2x GTX780Ti (much speed, huge graphics, wow)

* Get another 240GB SSD and RAID0 them.

* Change expensive Dell screen for a 24/27" 120Hz panel (if gaming on it). Eg: Asus VQ278H(E) (~$600)
(Yes, I've been there, I own a U2410 Wide Gamut, not worth it for gaming, get a TN.)

* Change PSU to 900W.

* Overclock the 4930K to about 4.2Ghz, (4.4Ghz on H110i) and the memory to 2133/2400Mhz. Can't really buy a faster system than this unless you throw in more graphics cards.

same spec as i have minus the titan (gtx780) the dell 30 and all that hdd

the liquid cooler was neat to install, but i haven't changed the oc settings in the bios to get 4.2Ghz out of it yet

it's a good build, enjoy

if anything i'd plug another gtx780 in alongside it

if you have the money i'd get an OCZ velo drive. It gets past the SATA3 bottleneck and exploits PCIe bandwidth... it will blast through that intel SSD more than twice over.
Or consider getting two and raid.

Buy a mid-range PC that'll play all games just fine and save that money.

But if you really must:
Dell 30" U3014 UltraSharp IPS Monitor – 2560x1600, 6ms USB3.0 HDMI DisplayPo

You're going to buy a super gaming rig that'll get you a lot of FPS but you're going to watch it on a 60hz screen. That makes no sense.

Dude, 120hz or don't even bother. Size isn't everything. 27" 120hz is what you want.

Lol it was a gift. I can't use the money for anything else.

I'll look over suggestions and come up with a build. Thanks all.
I'll build it myself, been building pcs for over two decades.. I have a few wholesale accounts with main suppliers. Sourcing the CPU might be the hardest part locally

You can spend way more. There are cases in the $1,000 to $3,000 mark alone. A massive dual Xeon setup can cost over $15,000.

In fact the 3930K/4930K are a good bang for buck chip at that upper level. ($500-$600) The Xeon chips around them (performance wise) are well over $1,000 per chip and the multipliers aren't even unlocked which makes them tough to overclock. BF4 uses 12 cores on these CPUs which highlights how the industry is taking on multi-core gaming. The old "you don't need more than 2/4 cores" thing is getting pretty redundant now.

Just comes down to how much overhead someone wants for the future.

Yeah, coz DICE are having such a good run with BF4 atm... it might use all cores, but it's still a steaming POS.

I wish more games used two cores let alone 12

Back to OP...
It's simple really. My one suggestion for building a gaming PC is to NOT SPEND $5k+ on a gaming PC.

Great 'bang for buck' can be had for <$2k (computer alone) and if your heart is set on a Dell U30, for christ sake wait til Dell put on Boxing day sales, or mid year sales... the $500+ you'll save could be better used on anything else.

So at a rough blast of ~$3500 take the other 2k odd and go on a trip somewhere.

Red drives are designed for Network Attached Storage.

You could get a better result with 2 660's in SLI i am at a loss as to why you would need so many HD's and a solid state drive unless you plan to install a gazillion games and then back them all up,which is not necessary if they are steam games eg i just installed Half life 2 on W8.1 and Valve kindly loaded all my saves and achievements from XP.

My XP build a mini ATX, 2 gig ram GTX 560ti, intel P4 800wt psu the point being you don't need something that could be used for folding home for playing games.

(ps).You may as well get 3 monitors and play your games in 3d.

Cheange the ram, get another SSD, use 2x 780 TI, change cpu cooler.

That would be the ultimate gaming pc at this time.

Trust me. Why? Because I have spent over 5k on my PC build also

well you certainly should not use HDMI for its audio capability

far better digital cables for that (assuming your music server and DAC has those digital terminations available to use but then there are adapters like USB to SPDIF etc)

Get a modular psu @80+ gold, mine is a 800 wt Silent pro gold.

And don't listen to the naysayers about msy they don't make the stuff they sell and they have a high turnover so you will almost always get the latest gear.

The problem is choosing the best solution for your self, personally i do research over a period of many months reading reviews and the wait is always worth it.

PS modular psu = you only connect the device's you have installed which frees up space in your machine for better air flow and it doesn't look like a mad woman's breakfast of loose cables inside.

You need to understand that the best 5.1 audio that comes out of a computer is converting the uncompressed multi-channel PCM signal found directly on the PCIe bus. If you run PCM through optical cables, you are limited to 2 channels unless lossy-compression is used. PCM > All.

I wanna do an upgrade because it's fun putting a new PC together although I only play WoW these days so it would be a waste.

WoW on the system below still runs at 40fps in the Shrine. Boggy old game engine, runs nice in 10/25's though.

------------

I think 2 Titans was a waste. 2x 780Ti's would beat them by a decent margin, and you could have bought 3 for the price of 2 Titans, not that you'd want to try and run 3 cards on a 4770K. Clock up and show the scores.
