ok so it's at least resolving dns from the remote swerver. but there doesn't seem to be any data link layer happy happening.

anyone know what's up with that?

no problems here on telstra cable

every once in a while I have to get them out to replace the connection in the street because over time water gets in and degrades it. But by that point the modem won't even connect.

try resolving your data link layers via dns instead of letting the remote server convert your folders to webs and publish them with proprietary protocol stacks and firmware daemons

How can you get DNS but not get other TCP/UDP data through?

I think you got something fishy going on. ICMP to google.com/sony.com ?

Use a visual basic GUI to enhance the connection and download the internet that way.

well my router also supports keyword blocking and a misplaced * will probably do the same. You can resolve addresses but no data is received.
