Rate my new Laptop
okay, so it isn't new, but it is damn cool
it is a libretto 50CT, and other than needing a battery repack, it is 100% all good, (and it was free) I had never had my hands on one till today, and when these bad boys were new I had a small lust for them this is what is is for those that are unsure http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toshiba_Libretto oh, and another link http://resource.toshiba-europe.com/europe/computers/flyers/libretto/libretto_50_e.pdf got the 32mb ram upgrade, and 800mb hard disk (the noise is from my childhood! it is soo cool) now I guess it will be fun trying to find newish bits for it (it did come with the dock that gives me a vga, com, and parallel port!) also, would an SSD run under window 95 or dos? |

Sweet. I remember those. I also remember working at Microsoft where they had some Compaq briefcase laptops where the screen was in the briefcase bit adn the keyboard unclipped.
My new laptop is a Toshiba after being a long term HP user... though its an i7 with 16gb ram and a SSD. |

No. I'm not even sure if Windows 95 supports UDMA, but it most certainly doesn't support AHCI. You might be stuck with drives running in pure IDE mode. While it might run, you'll very quickly screw the drive up. Also, it depends on what version of Windows 95. Win95C supports FAT32 properly, but A and B (SR1, OSR2 etc) only support FAT, and don't even support exFAT. You're therefore stuck with a 4GB (from memory) limit and small pages. FreeDOS and 4DOS might give you more luck than MSDOS with IDE drivers, but MS-DOS 6.22 isn't going to give you a lot of love on an older motherboard that doesn't have native emulation support. Remember that Windows 95 doesn't even have USB support. |

i've been looking around, and seen a number of "hacks" to enable it to have either a ps/2 port or usb (which i'm guessing it just to let it use modernish keyboards etc)
however there is the pcmica card slot, (my has a modem, floopy and cd drive that uses the card/slot) surely there is some hope for usb thru that? |
