my "lan" keyboard is just some cheap $15 USB keyboard. Just get something ubercheap, save up and buy something more decent later on.

So you wouldn't spend $50 on a PSU but you will on a keyboard? Priorities!
I dunno if you can get a mechanical keyboard for $50, but if you can, I'd say do that. Maybe you'll get lucky and find something in all the sales that are on atm. Mechanical keyboard ftw though, I can't go back after having one. |

Well, I didn't know how important it was until after that. So sue me. |
Just buy a cheap keyboard. A flashy keyboard isn't going to turn you into some sort of uber-gaming god.
|
Seen some reviews that suggest that this is kinda s***. It was my first preference, only because I'm biased towards Razer. Its what i have and for its price i cant complain. Maybe they are better options for under 50 but i haven't tried them. |
^^^^good point made there,
good for the price, you can't say a $50 keyboard is "s***" if you're comparing it to $100 keyboards, also, you get what you pay for, and the three things that will jack up a price of any computer product are as follows, Quality, how well it is built features/style, how good it looks, or the extras you get with it (ie, extra ports, or lights) apple branding you can get multiplying effect to that as well |
Mechanical keyboard ftw though, I can't go back after having one. I very much doubt you'd get one for $50 as they're usually in the $100-150 range, but the advice is spot on. Don't buy a mechanical keyboard unless you're willing to shun the regular dome capped POS models forever. What have you got Khel? I've got a das Pro Model S with mx browns and I find it awesome for both typing and gaming. I've only ever seen umart et al. stock the cherry mx black switches more suited towards gaming. |
also, you get what you pay for, and the three things that will jack up a price of any computer product are as follows, Logitech G19 takes this and throws it out the window. Build quality is abysmal. |
whoop, that is because it cost so much because of features and style,
spend the same amount on a ugly das keyboard, and you'll know the difference |
I use the logitech backlit. Awesome product.
|
infi, same here, (the early wired model), however it is getting to the end of it life, hard use/abuse, and it has been the best keyboard ive used since the model M i turfed 9-10 years ago
|

I've got a Razer Blackwidow Ultimate, the 2012 model, couldn't find it in stores anywhere at the time so I just ordered it online direct from Razer. It uses Cherry MX blues, which if my googling serves me correctly, have the same tactile feel as browns but sound more clicky. Which I don't mind really, I kinda like the clickyness :) |
I've got an old ms ergonomic 4000 wired which I've had since they came out, and it is as good as new maybe 8 years later, one scratch on the soft leather wrist rest but the keys are still great and even the paint hasn't worn much at all.
|
Microsoft x4. Does everything you need. Backlit. Macros. Up to 10 buttons at the same time or something. So really good for gaming. Only 30-40 bucks
|
I've got an old ms ergonomic 4000 wired MS Intelli 4000 here Dad told me to buy 3 of them when I remarked about how much I liked the feel of this one.. I should've listened. This one was gifted from my brother in law mid-this year to replace the Logitech that I never really could get comfortable with. Each to their own though. |

Only downside is the key grouping is ass for games and it started not showing up sometimes. I think it was breaking down :( |
Yeah, I usually play on the big screen with a controller or controller plus mouse now, but I think it's the ctrl key that is a pain to get to playing games.

not in your price range, but what i use and recommend for games. I have never used macro keys, i've bound them, i've made cool ones, but come crunch time in game, i've never used them. I prefer the smaller form factor + instant response that the mechanical cherry keys give. I type on a g15 at work. I prefer the steelseries hands down every day. |
well i just got a 510. ill never use the g keys on the side. and its hard to find things to use the panel. but i love the audio buttons at the top right
|
mechanical kb, for when absolutely everyone on your floor must know when you are typing

mechanical kb, for when absolutely everyone on your floor must know when you are typing I have no idea why, but I lost my s*** when I read this. Completely cracked up for 2 minutes. Tears streaming down my face from laughing so hard. IT WASN'T EVEN THAT FUNNY! |
The cherry mx brown switches aren't all that much louder than a regular keyboard. The blue switches are louder, so if you have a sensitive flower in the office I wouldn't recommend them.
Open plan offices are a bigger productivity destroyer than someone clicking away though. |
Expensive keyboards are snake oil for gaming. I've bought the same ~$12 keyboard & miniature mouse deal from crazy clarks or silly sollies or somewhere twice now (though the last time was like 4 years ago), and pretty much every game I play I'll instantly be the top of the charts, due to my incredible sexiness and leet skills. Even for keyboard-piloting planes and helicopters and whatnot in battlefield, a cheap keyboard is fine.
I'd recommend a regular complications-free microsoft keyboard, since I was looking at getting a new one recently since my a-key has finally lost its click. Volume control on keyboard is ftw. |
in other news, if 'Macro keys' is of interest to you, DSE are selling the Logitech G110 for $40 atm.
