I think pretty much what came of Trog's thread the other week was:

Asrock Z77-EXTREME4 Z77 - $139
Intel Core i5 3570 - $209 or Intel Core i7 3770 - $299
Galaxy GeForce GTX 660 GC 2GB - $249

With the video card, I'd go with the EVGA just because all the other GTX 660's look fugly to me with the two giant fans.

You'll probably need new RAM, unless you already have 1600.

But yes, I would recommend a 3770 - I have one, upgraded from a 920 recently.

What's wrong with your current i7? It's not a c2quad so it's doing ok?

Yeah, benchmarks of a 580 on a dualcore, quadcore, and an OC'd high end Quadcore for BF3 when it was released showed nearly no change to FPS. Literally 1-2 fps between them (and not necessarily the faster was the better).

I'd guess you've got plenty of grunt. In fact it's really only old games with 1 thread which won't perform as well, if they were cpu limited. Modern games with more than 2 threads will run fine.

why bother upgrading, spend it on blow and hookers instead

imo don't go the reference design with the single fan at the end. they're a bastard to keep dust out of and the heatsink channels where the supposedly cool air is meant to go get clogged too.

i never could understand out why people give a s*** about the guts of their PC looking good...
