Pretty cool. I got their customisable mouse as a present. Too heavy IMO and i didnt find any of the adjustable stuff beneficial. Ended up swapping back to my logitech G9x and giving it to my dad. I also dont see the numpad being used as a separate WASD replacement to to a vastly different layout of keys.

DM care to give us a run down on your thoughts on that steelseries keyboard? You obviously like it since you continue to use it. How long have you had it for, if you have had it for a while how is the wear and tear?
I actually have a wolfs claw board and while it looks pretty retarded it has served me pretty well with the layout of the keys. The problem is they are getting harder to find (I have gone through 4 in about 6-7 years)so at some point I am probablu going to have to go for something different. I like the look of the Steelseries Merc stealth so anything you care to share I am all ears. |

This is the one I use, the 6gv2
http://cache.gizmodo.com/assets/images/4/2010/03/steelseries6gv2.jpg It's a big weighty bastard that is like 3kg so it doesn't slide around randomly and the stupid windows key is moved to the right hand of the space bar and replace with a modifier button for the F1 -F6 keys so you can use it for winamp and whatnot. I've had it for... well I can't really remember to be honest but it's at least 2 years old i'd say and still works like brand new. A little dusty looking but never had an issue with it. The keys never stick but it did take a little while to get used to since the keys are more sensitive so you only need to semi press a button for it to work. That will be a good or bad point I suppose. I think it's the best keyboard i've had. |

Its not a bad keyboard, really good if your into MMO games, It is pretty huge though, and not having dedicated numpad can get really annoying. It doesn't do too bad at FPS or other games either, the little side bit can actually be quite handy, but much the same with just regular old WASD. For my next keyboard i am thinking of getting a ducky keyboard http://www.pccasegear.com/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=113_1361 Iv read they are decent. Just my 2 cents anyway. |

I grabbed a Black Widow Ultimate, mechanical keyboards ftw indeed.
Something so satisfying about the clicking sound of fast typing. Plus it's always handy since I usually play in pitch black, so never have to fumble for my keys. And the USB / sound ports on it prevent me from having to get down under my desk to plug s*** in lol. |

Thinking about getting it, though it sounds like it isn't mechanical, so probably not an option. This Razer Blackwidow is just too good.
Edit: Upon reading their website, it apparently uses a membrane design for the keyboard, however it is meant to mimic a mechanical keyboard. Rdizz if you give it a try, let us know what it feels like, because if it does feel like a mechanical keyboard then I might buy one, else I'll stick with my Razer. |

Just looks like a waste of money to me (and its not like I'm particularly responsible with my finances, so thats a big call). Seems to be packed full of gimmicks you might use once or twice when you get it, and then never again. Looks like it'd be kind of annoying to use as a normal keyboard too when you're not gaming.
Maybe thats just me though, but I don't even use the macro keys I have on my keyboard at home, let alone all the extra s*** on that one. |

Im curious if that thumb rest with the trigger / dial / button thingy would feel comfortable and effective. & its cool how u can put the parts around. I think the sell point would be just how detailed & useful that touch screen would be, as all I ever see people using those things for is computer temperature & winamp :P

Razer have a keyboard with a touch screen built into the keyboard, and the touch screen can act as buttons or you can display stuff on it, surf the net, view videos on youtube or whatever. But really, is there ever a need for that? I can't imagine a scenario where I'm sitting there with a need to watch youtube videos on a tiny screen on my keyboard.

It weighs as much as a brick and won't break if the internet disapoints me so much that i must smash my head into it repeatedly! I can't imagine a scenario where I'm sitting there with a need to watch youtube videos on a tiny screen on my keyboard. Amen. The cost of a 22 inch monitor is cheaper, higher def, and more functional. Was it also them that made that stupid keyboard on the laptop which was also a multifunction touch screen without any feedback so you couldn't tell what button you pressed unless you checked your hand position all the freaking time? |

Thanks DM and others. I like the sound of the steelseries being heavy it kind of suggests strongly built and since I tend to lug my keyboard to where ever I travel to I like the idea of a tough board.
I'll probably give the Merc Stealth because I like the look of the lay out of the movement keys. As I mentioned I have used Wolfs claw boards for years and while they are fairly crap and cheap the key layout is something of a must for me. My fingers are a bit broken up after years of football and misbehaving to trying to use normal WASD keys is pretty much impossible. |

I hate to use 'tactile' to describe it since its such a buzz word, but thats what it comes down to, its just a more satisfying feel. Apparently theres benefits to it where like you can type faster because you have that feedback from the keys, you can tell as soon as the press has registered and move onto the next key, and maybe subsconciously that happens because I do tend to feel like my typing flows better and is more precise, but really I just like the feel of the keys when I press them, and the clicky-clacky sound makes it sound like I'm getting down to serious business. |

I had a g15 v1 for yonks .. loved it. Then it met a bourbon glass.
So I tried some other Logitech keyboards... I am constantly mistyping with my g510, and the g15v2 feel wrong (the castle style. And then a topless female ninja with her pet dragon saw trog. |

I don't remember what colour they were (I think blues? Though they could be super clicky...) Anyways, I know I saw a set of switches that were rather quiet when compared to blues or browns (normal mechanical keys). What's the big attraction with mechanical keyboards? Is it just the positive feedback from hitting a button and you KNOW it's been pressed? As Khel said, there's the tactile side to it, but there's also something so very satisfying about the sound they make when you're typing up a storm. Personally, it's one of my favourite sounds in the world, typing fast on my mechanical keyboard. Plus they actuate faster than normal keyboards which is a minuscule edge lol. |

I had a g15 v1 for yonks .. loved it. Then it met a bourbon glass. i'm not sure if you're serious or what but after going from 3 different iterations of MS natural keyboards to a logitech G19, I can't type for s***. It's not "because it's a G19" but more "because it's not an MS natural". I used to be able to type reasonably error free and at great speeds on my natural boards, but on any regular keyboard I can't type for s***. The keys all seem to be in the wrong place. I put my finger where one key should be and it ends up being some other key, they're way too close together. I'd like to go back to the natural but I use the macro keys & LCD panel too much to ever go back, even in windows. I even have a couple of the macro keys set to spam out html code for easier quotes & links on here :) |
