pav, I have the asus, and tbh it is a great gaming monitor, the only fault is that it is a little cool for some photo work (but I still use a CRT for my prints anyway)

great on the eyes, and games well,

oh and the button placement I like,

it makes pictures pretty,

i ran out of useful stuff to say, but it isn't a bad monitor in anyway, simple, and nice on the eyes with a good image

How come Dell have the best monitors?

Because they cater for businesses as well as the el-cheapo mass market, whereas most manufacturers go just for the latter. Many companies that do CAD work absolutely need good colour reproduction - meaning they want a good colour coverage as well as high viewing angles so the contrast is uniform across the panel.

Bit of a niche market since most people are ok with a cheap LCD that does the basic job. Though I find some who try the higher end monitors generally start getting whingy when it's taken away :)

Tried calibrating it? I hate my asus monitor, I've tried to calibrate it but no matter what it always seems to have a red tint. I think the CCFL's are dying (it's a fairly oldish monitor). Even if I turn red all the way off and green the picture is still purple(ish).

Also +1 for 100+hz. Recently saw how smooth a 100hz TV is and omigawd it's so sexy.

Or just get a samsung 40" TV, they're pretty cheap :)

tbh i wouldn't notice it (it is such a fine difference) is it wasn't next to the sony, I guess it is down to the way the LCD is backlit

Just FYI, My work is now distributing Dell monitors now, models currently available are S2330MX, ST2220T, U2410w, U2711, and U3011. I can't personally sell directly to you guys, but can direct you to find decent customers of ours that ARE selling them (p.s. hit up staticice... just as a heads up) Specially with the 30" IPS panels (U3011) there's definitely savings to be had from our retailer customers vs buying from direct from Dell site...

After seeing the specs of these puppies, I'd have intimate relations with it, were it possible... is a 2560x1600 res! :O

I'm torn between the Samsung PLS and the Dell's though, dells have such a high price point, but you pay for quality I guess... You guys have always been keen on the Dell's so I assume they must be pretty damn decent.. :D

That Yamakasi is very nice, but with about 400 dollars as a pricetag, it should be. Great resolution and fantasic OCability for the HZ allowing super refresh times for ultimate smooth graphics at ultra high resolutions.

But still 400+ dollars, and whatever i buy it has to be in 3s. So i'm not keen to spend 1200-1500 dollars on 3 monitos.. besides at 7680 by 1440, i don't think my videocards will keep up.

I'm kind of annoyed that they're all 1920 x 1080. My current screen is 1920 x 1200 and I like being able to game or watch TV in "full HD" but still have the windows task bar visible for quick switching to other stuff and for that little bit of extra screen space while browsing the web. A lot of people have told me hurrrr HD is 1920 x 1080 why would you want 1200 hurrr derp hurp but I tell them to f*** off and ask why would I want to downgrade to a smaller res.

So how's the monitor going? I wasn't going to bother because mine still works but it's got some weird vertical bands going on and they're getting worse and worse. There's some sort of weird band that's lighter in colour than the rest of the screen about every 2 inches (or could this be a video card thing?). Also I can't ever turn my monitor off, if I do it won't turn back on. L O L. If I turn it off I have to then unplug it for a few minutes, maybe smack it around a bit and try again. Repeat until it decides to turn on. But if I don't ever turn it off, it works perfectly. lolwut?

either way, this new samsung thing is looking pretty attractive.

What's everyone's take on these: http://www.computeralliance.com.au/parts.aspx?qryPart=13679 ? Seems some monitors are doing away with DVI and going DP/HDMI only, which is better out of them, DP or HDMI? My video card does both but I just need to know whether to spend that extra $200 on a monster HDMI or DP cable :p

it is f*****g sick, but am probably not a very good yard stick because i came from such a s*** monitor

i was using the missus 3ish year old 22inch lcd for the past few weeks and it destroys that

it has some cool feature as well like a motion sensor that turns the monitor off after x amount of time it doesnt sense movement in front of the monitor and also a light sensor so it will automatically dim the backing light at night if you have no lights on (which is good because it is f*****g bright at night)

yeah i wasnt expecting that DP port on this monitor at all, i had to get the hdmi cable for the ps3 and use that with a dvi->hdmi converter as i already have my samsung 32inch tv plugged into the hdmi port on my graphics card

i had never heard of thise DP port until i pulled the monitor out of the box heh

i realise its an older model now but iam not too fussed with my pc monitors like some people.

it does 1080p.. thats enough for me, and it has passive 3d (which some people dont like and prefer active) its pretty good, def not as crystal clear as an active but over riding the default driver with an acer one has allowed me to view stereoscopic video so wow, sc2 and diablo are looking pretty pimp.

d3 does not support stereoscopic however if you just turn it on.. it works.

very happy camper for my uses anyway.

Yeah I'm not too fussy either but I'm pretty sure my current monitor is on the down hill slope to deathsville. After seeing what a 100hz TV looks like, I'd rather go a 100+ hz monitor as well, it just looks so much sexier and I do quite miss my 100hz refresh rates that I used to have on my old (but good) CRT. Don't give too hoots about 3d either.

these are the bands I was on about
http://i296.photobucket.com/albums/mm190/pointyfork/QGL/th_IMG_2199.jpg

and are clearly visible on the qgl blue when viewed at a normal angle.

I'd have thought the thing would have had maybe a couple of CCFL's in it, not a CCFL every 2 inches. I know the old sony trinitron CRT's had a support wire or 3 inside the tube that became visible after a while, I wonder if there's something similar in these things, like a common earth wire for a bunch of segments or something I dunno. Either way they're getting worse.

i dont know the name of the connector type but it looks a lot like a USB connector with a curved edge on one side... is there an adapter? should my video card have come with that kind of connector etc?

aga it uses either a HDMI or this new DP connection

your video card should either have a HDMI port on it or at the very least come with a DVI -> HDMI adapter

i was quite surprised as well, i had to grab the hdmi cable from the ps3 and an adapter as i already have my tv plugged into the hdmi port on my video card

i doubt your card would have come with a DP converter, my 6870 didnt come with one either. i had no idea this DP connection even existed until i pulled the monitor out of the box

There may be a valid manufacturer's warranty, but it requires you to ship the monitor back to Korea (roughly $130 shipping.)
F that.

All the ones on ebay are newer and will not overclock past 67Hz or so.

Make sure you have a Dual Link DVI cable (should come with one ... it's the connector that has 27 pins instead of 18 inside, meaning no gap).

Then just go into Screen Resolution settings from Desktop, click on Advanced, then Monitor and set it in there.

Without the Dual Link cable it won't function properly.
