Hey all, now that I've got the money to be able to afford a TV, I was wondering what some good brands were? I'm looking at a 32" LCD screen, and I've noticed the D*** Smith near work has some good in-house brand prices, but not sure on the quality of the TV.

This is the D*** Smith one clicky, though there is also this Sony Bravio one for $369.

Also looking elsewhere, there is a Retravision around the corner from D*** Smith, and they usually "lower" the price if you pay cash yeah? Though their prices seem to be around the $400-$500 market for a 32".

The Bravia isn't full HD (1366 x 768) and is only 50 hz.

I recommend:
Minimum 60hz, preferrably 100hz
Full HD 1920x1080

Try JB Hi Fi ... if I wanted another TV, I'd get Soniq 42" 100hz Full HD.

I have the 32" version, rather good other than to get audio through a stereo or headphones you have to go Optical Audio or something. Just be warned on that note! Apparently a lot of TVs are going that way these days (or so they tell me).

Bravia here. Obviously higher than 50hz would be good but youll also pay for it. Bravia is an excellent choice if you plan on using PS3 with it.

Yeah that's the plan, play games and stream TV.

If you're playing games DEFINITELY get minimum 60hz and Full HD.

I'd go the Sanyo. I got my Soniq 32" from JB for $330 (on special), so make sure you shop around!

f*** the cabinet off and get a 50" minimum. i wouldn't buy a TV to suit my cabinet. buy one to suit your lounge. a decent low line ent unit isn't that much extra.

go check out the view so you don't get caught up in the LCD v Plasma debate. ask them to play a blu-ray on both to compare. remember when you're in the show room it's usually a more darkened environment than your lounge. unless your putting it in your dungeon for nasty porn.

I would love to get something bigger, but the lounge room isn't that "large", your about 1.2 metre away from the TV if you sit on the couches, so it's quite close.

32" ? wtf is wrong with you ?
thats a computer monitor not a TV.

What are you going to be doing with the TV ?
If its just casual watching freetoair or Standard Foxtel just get a cheapy DSE/Soniq/VIVO/GVA
unless you are watching BlueRay DVDs or Foxtel HD dont bother with a big brand model.

Cant you put the TV on top of your cabinet ?
What do you watch more, the cabinet or the TV ?

There isnt a lot of 1080P 32" TV's left on the market. I would recommend the UA37D5000 from Samsung, 1080P, 100Hz, USB Media Player, f*****g great TV. $732 is cheap too.

Just unpacked a Sony 46" 720 series in my shop. Man that thing is sexy! Pretty cheap @ $1320 too for a 46" LED LCD 3D bla bla bla....

Raven: I love my Samsung 64", it is awesome.

Haha Faceman, thanks for that. It's a TV that I'll use casually so size doesn't really matter to me. I like the cabinet, it's nice, though I could probably take the top half off and I guesss get a larger one. Will see. Thanks for the info though peeps.

Edit: here is my cabinet, yay for free stuff. I think I'll just pull the top off and then place the TV on top of the bottom cabinet. Will get some speakers as well and make it fully sick bro.

Hey now, the PS2 was the best console I have ever owned besides SNES. My PS3 is currently in my study, so therefore not in the picture. TV was my mothers old TV before she got a 50" LCD for christmas few years back. It was free so meh, as was the cabinet, thus not really bothering to get a new one. The lounge room doesn't get used that much due to nothing being in there, so it's quite bare :(

Why?

1280x720 = HD
1920x1080 = Full-HD

1366x768 is between the two. Not that I'd buy a screen like that - I can't stand seeing individual pixels.

Yep take the top off, and the front glass doors.

Make a shelf using 2 bricks and a piece of board (don't need to nail or screw it in) over size but not as deep. Shelf sits at front with free space at rear.

Why buy a high quality TV to watch low quality video ?
Free to air looks crap on expensive TVs because its SD.
Same with SD Foxtel.

If you have HD Foxtel or watch a lot of HD DVDs sure buy an expensive TV.

also, fork out that bit extra eorl, get an LED LCD, cheaper to run (about half the cost, as it is half the power usage roughly)

They had 60" LG Plasma = $1200
60" LED not sure brand - $1100 (wasnt soniq)

60" LG Plasma + HD Fox Sports = Multiple Visualgasms
