A few problems still with the server configuration screen.

There are still some major issues with the server configuration page.

We are planning on switching from Hardcore to Softcore for a while so I changed the name of the server and set the preset to normal and restarted it. Nothing changed even after waiting a reasonable time so I restarted it again just in case I did something wrong. It took battlelog a while to catch up and when it did it looks like the server was now softcore and the name was changed. Except that now when I go back to the configuration page beyond the name and the preset dropdown all the settings showing are still from the original custom HC setup we had and the template default prompts are still showing what is needed for Hardcore rather than softcore.

Sorry but still broken guys.

Okay we've discovered another problem. While we used the configuration page preset to turn the server to softcore it is coming up as custom. From what I can see in Battlelog the settings are correct there must be some small setting thats wrong that isnt displayed by BL.

Sorted. I answered in a bit more depth in your support request, but the issue was that the "hardcore" template was still applied for your server, so you were fighting those defaults. Dropping that template and adding the normal template resolved most of the issue.

The trouble is though what happens if we change the server type again? If I use your template system I will be back in the same boat again with a broken interface. Using the template changes the server (your template is broken by the way it has one setting wrong) but leave the interface AND the config files still set to the old settings.

As far as things look now if we want to switch back to hardcore again we will need to just change the individual settings. Which can be problematic thanks to Dice's stupid way of describing servers. One setting out of whack and it's custom which results in less people finding your server.

I'm sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "broken interface".

The idea is that if you leave all of the settings set by the templates as default you only need to change the template, everything else is done automatically. That way you can change the server from normal to hardcore with a couple of clicks.

Of course, you can simply not apply any templates and change everything yourself; you can even entirely ignore the configuration page and change the config files yourself. I don't recommend either of those, because then you won't get any changes when we change the defaults to match the new information we get from DICE.

I'm amused that you mention that a setting is wrong but didn't tell me which one to save me the time of finding it, but that was actually a good thing, because I found two settings that were wrong in the templates :)

Sorry it was your support guy Brendan that actually found which one was wrong so I thought you would already know. ;) I'm not quite so mean as to force you to find something like that yourself. :)

I mean broken by the fact that when I used the configuration page to change the template all of the controls stayed the same as they were before the changes. This includes the data that came up when you previewed the files themselves. Because they never changed to reflect what the server was running I had no way to see which value was stopping the server from being classed as normal.

It will only continue to cause confusion if someone applies a template but the individual settings reflect something else.

Ahh, gotcha.

Might be worth having a popup box when you add a new template that asks "Do you want to apply this template and overwrite your current settings" or something. Thanks for the feedback and idea. :)
