Server Crashes

Can't keep a server full without it crashing. 2 64p servers filled only to crash shortly after. They have crashed twice in the last 4 hours.

What happened to limiting rentals to provide that excellent quality?

This really need to be sorted out.

I understand your frustration.

In fact, before I say anything else, I'll repeat that in bold so that you don't lose sight of it while reading the rest of my reply:

I understand your frustration.

AusGamers provides:
  • the host (hardware) for your BF4 server

  • the network from the host to the internet backbone

  • the software that configures and starts your BF4 server

  • the software that monitors the performance of your BF4 server

  • the astonishingly sexy people who support your BF4 server

What we don't provide is the BF4 dedicated server software. That is a black box that DICE give us. We set the configuration files and run a command line, then it does its thing. Once it has started we can monitor it, but we have no control over it; it either works or it doesn't.

All of the crashes you are seeing are, without any exceptions, due to bugs in the BF4 dedicated server software. There is nothing we can do to make the server crash even 1% less than it is now. We provide the best possible host, the best possible network, the best possible configuration software, the best possible monitoring software*, and very definitely the most sexy (and experienced) BF4 support specialists) that money can buy.

None of that helps when the BF4 server gets a packet of information from a player that is in a spot that the server thinks can't possibly exist, divides by 0 and crashes. Every crash like that writes a dump file, every dump file goes to DICE. They have to fix the dedicated servers.

We use our experience in every way possible. For example, we have bespoke tools to review BF4 log files for problems. I can tell you exactly how many times a particular server experienced "rubberbanding", what map was playing at the time, how many players were online when it happened, etc. These are the things we do to provide the best possible environment for the BF4 servers.

I understand your frustration. If there is anything we can do, we are doing it.

I'm happy to answer any and all questions that I can about BF4 server stability, but of course there are some things I'm just not permitted to discuss. Ask anything though.

Imminentsoldier, this may be a long shot, but when the server crashes, is it every time the Tower crashes down in Shanghai on Conquest?

We noticed our server crashing every time this happened. I have taken it out of our rotation and we haven't had a crash since (that I am aware of).

Just thought I would mention it just in case ;)

I'll run a crash per map parse tomorrow and see if there is anything I can share.

When we going for dinner?

Nah look, I am not having a crack at you guys but when I am getting 4 crashes in 1 day, it really ticks me off.

Roundie, no they are very random. Happens on different maps. Could be first few mins in the round or at the end.

Thanks

So far from my personal experience of roaming around on all AusGamers hosted servers the maps in particular that cause issues are Paracel Storm when the weather kicks up, Siege of Shanghai when the tower falls down and Flood Zone just in general.

As Malthius said, we'll do some tests today and see if we can pinpoint exactly which maps are causing the most trouble but sadly these kind of things are just out of control, something we really hate saying.

Ive had reports of lag on Dawnbreaker, Hainan Resort, Paracel Storm and Flood zone none of the others chuck up lag or crashes.

What i find is when i chuck the next round as Zavod the lag stops.

Hope that helps in your reports.

Looks like i will be changing me servers name from '-WARS- All maps' to '-WARS- working maps only' . Over the last few days i have noticed that Flood Zone seems to crash our server more than Lacang dam so i will be removing these maps also .So that will leave 7 maps maybe 6 if you If we end up taking out Golmud railway for the no sound bugs
