Sad news struck overnight as details of the passing of Kevin Conroy were brought to light. The 66-year-old had reportedly been battling cancer.

Conroy was the voice of Batman across multiple forms of media, but is most remembered for his stints in Batman: The Animated Series and as Batman in the Batman: Arkham series of games. He also spoofed himself and the character as Captain Sunshine in the Venture Bros. animated series to great acclaim.

Openly gay, Conroy recently wrote a piece for DC's annual Pride Anthology titled "Finding Batman". DC wrote of the seminal voice actor:
DC is deeply saddened at the passing of the legendary actor, and the voice of Batman for legions of fans, Kevin Conroy. His iconic voice made Batman real not only through his work in Batman: The Animated Series, but a host of animated features, video games and more.

Kevin recently contributed a personal story to DC's annual Pride Anthology, illustrated by J. Bone and lettered by Aditya Bidikar. The entire DC Pride 2022 anthology is now free-to-read for fans in tribute to his impact on us all.

He will be forever missed.
His voice mic counterpart, Mark Hamill, who played the Joker across from Conroy for a number of years wrote of his passing:
Kevin was perfection. He was one of my favourite people on the planet, and I loved him like a brother. He truly cared for the people around him – his decency shone through everything he did. Every time I saw him or spoke with him, my spirits were elevated.
In the eyes of this publication's editors Conroy is the one and only true Batman.

Vale, Kevin Conroy.
