Respawn's Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is upon us and the Force is... maybe a bit fence-sitting as to whether Light or Dark at this point. There's a lot to love here, but a lot of questionable stuff to unfurl as well.
Here's a snippet from our in-depth review: This is sort of the first problematic part of the game, in that it’s one-note. One Kenny G-note at times, despite the influences injected from those aforementioned games. This isn’t a bad thing from a narrative perspective depending on your feelings across Anakin or Luke, but the singular path of the game’s story undermines the planet-hopping nature of what Respawn has tried to craft here. Is this Mass Effect, or is this The Force Unleashed? And that question begins to rear its head a lot in the nature of the game’s seemingly-ungated-but-very-gated worlds. I completely skipped Kashyyk -- technically the game’s third world because I’m an explorer in games, which means I’ll avoid progressing the story as much as possible. The problem is, I needed to go to Kashyyk to gain abilities from there to properly traverse the game-world. It’s very Metroidvania in this way, which is fine. But the gating needs to be handled better than “you just can’t go any further because you can’t jump more”.Click here for our full Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order review. |
So the gameplay sucks and it gets an 8/10?
|
No, gameplay is a mish-mash, but it still works and plays. It'll need a fix, for sure, but what's here IS functional, it's just not exceptional and could have been more. The story, presentation and world-building, is first-class. There's a lot to be taken away from that in conjunction with, admittedly, broken parts of gameplay, against actual gameplay that works and sings with said story and world-building. There's a good product here, it just needed a bit longer in development IMO

I am guessing Disney wanted EA to have it out before the next movie....

4 hours in and absolutely loving the game so far.

So an EA product as expected. I'm happy to wait for it to get fixed, I really enjoyed Mass Effect Andromeda and I bought that only after the final patch was released.
Will wait for the Xmas holidays, looks like I'll have a bit to play by then! |
How on earth can you say all those negative things and still give it an 8/10?
|
It looks like a great game. A shame it was yet another stereotypical EA rush job. The introduction in the article was a great caricature of that sort of mentality.
I'm looking forward to playing it when it's been patched and is a finished product. |
Just finished on PC. Was great, really enjoyed it.
Great story, good fighting. Make starwars great again (this and Mandalorian) |
Yeah, only did some testing so far, but I can agree with Steve here. Im also a Insane difficulty level player and its just not do-able....the whole parry routine is not there yet at all. The visuals are very well done and the Imperial charters (old SW nerd here) are done excellently, even with some newbies added I don't recall from movie's, books or comics. Overall can enjoy it, but the Force and Life system, let alone the Meditate but-dont-grind routine, net massive updating....which im suspicious EA wont be doing.
