Has anyone here had some superbad experiences switching over to FTTN?
It's just become available where i am and I have to get a voip compatible modem for some conference calling... currently looking at the AVM Fritz!Box 7490.
Just wondering if anyone has it already and can tell me a better one? But I can't really justify spending anything over $250 I'd rather just spend $50 haha
Or the TP-Link Archer VR600v
Yeah my parents are on frtizbox totally recommend them. They will work with any dect phone. Also very easy to setup.
Not the Huawei 659.
Extremely locked down access and reduced feature set, even for free/$50 its pretty bad.
Plus China will steal all your packets.
Not broadband network!
Sounds like a win Spock.
If you’re in the market for a fritz box, last time I bought one, Internode was cheapest (by around 10%, even on static ice) and you don’t need to be an ISP customer of theirs to buy it either.
I’m not sure how well it works as a non ADSL device, as that’s all I’ve used mine for. Though the VOIP stuff was a breeze if your ISP was able to provide the details for it.
Bonus points was the Fritz Fon. It allowed you to handle all firmware updates for the modem from a ‘Nokia style’ menu.
Similarly, the Fritz Fon also had some kinda nifty DLNA features too.
Then again, having seen what mobile phone contracts have done in the past 18-24 months, I’d practically abandon a VOIP phone (then again, I don’t have kids either) YMMV
It is a win.. But on the flip side it's also a massive loss for australia's internet being brought into the 90's.
I ended up going tplink.... cause i didn't need so many options. voip was just for a conference call a month.. and the occasional service call.
Has anyone here had some superbad experiences switching over to FTTN?They disconnected my ADSL connection and forgot to connect the other end. It took 3 weeks for NBN to reconnect it. I've been randomly disconnected by accident 2 more times in 16 months since being connected...its a s*** show.
ping 8msThat's your FTTN results? :/
FTTN voip modemsMobile phone.
Yeah that's my FTTN.
You say mobile phones.. but the $10 extra a month is less than i'd need to spend on a telstra mobile/contract.
no reception on the others.
I was changed over from ADSL 2+ to FTTN, When I lived in the ACT.
I went from 10-12Mbit/s down 900Kbit/s up to maybe 6Mbit/s down, flat out 500Kbit/s up and many more dropouts.
Turns out the copper in the pit out the front of our rental was bad. It wasn’t fixed before I left that place maybe 3 months later.
I’m hoping to be in the property buying game before too long, and I’ll be buying where there is fibre, or at the very least, the option to get fibre installed.
I think it’s sad that a s***** internet connection is what rustled my jimmies enough to get me to pay attention to politics; but I suppose I had to grow up sometime...
It's nbn50. Yeah wificalls are where it's at
Have you checked what you "should" be getting based on cable quality/length records?
Your line speed puts you at about 800m+ from your node.
How can i check that?
I have a mobile.. but in an area of only telstra reception.
I feel like if i am 800m away. I shouldn't bother going to a 25 plan cause then the speed will just drop some more.

You could try asking your RSP to check it for you, they can log into the NBN portal and SQ your address.
Alternatively you could give your address to someone with portal access (ie me) who can check it for you.
That sounds useful.. I was on the phone yesterday with the isp and on and on they went about how amazing my connection is. I mean yeah it's amazing if this was 30 years ago...etc
