Bulls*** over hyped lead up is over and the cricket has begun.
Proper test cricket yesterday. Lyon looking dangerous and now picking up wickets. Australia to win 3-1.
Shaun Marsh's first impact on thw game was a dropped sitter, classic Marsh brothers
If Smith gets out cheaply we're f***ed.
Omg so excited obviously not about our keeper selection.
Meanwhile Maxwell is 150+* in the Sheffield Shield.
I thought he had done enough to get selected. I totes would have gone maxwell before f***8ng marsh :(
He's also a second spin bowling option. Hopefully they're about to give him out so he can be f***ed off for the second test.
He is ready i reckon to go through a smith like rebirth.
Can't be worse than marsh...
i cant believe im not going this year. (even if i fail majorly most times when i go)
Yeah you are better off watching it on tv, you will at least make the lunch break
not the same atmosphere when i storm off early
smith again left to pick up the pieces after aussie top order collapses for f*** all.
maxwell scores 278.
SACK MARSH. (or maybe khawaja)
I hope Paine succeeds but I see Hanscombe becoming keeper and Maxwell coming into the side at 6.
Reckon handscombe can really become the full time keeper?
When he kept last time he very much looked like a part time keeper. He did an alright job but he was super relaxed about it.
I guess it's speculation on my part whether he could be developed into a keeper of test quality, but Australia could really use 7 specialist batsman. We're really missing runs being made at number 7. I can't remember the last time anyone made a decent score in that position.
But hey, Paine was dismissed by a cracker good enough to get any batsmen in the history of the game today so I'm not writing him off yet. If he succeeds we could get a good four years out of him.
Pretty sure i can't remembwr any batsman apart from steve smith making any good runs for a while.
It is getting f*****g embarassing how often steve smith has to single handedly save a test match with his bat.
... and the tail. Cummins is a very welcome addition. From what I saw on TV and heard on the radio he handled himself brilliantly today. Starc is a bit more of a flat track bully but he makes plenty of handy runs as well.
Don't forget about Warner. He's been amongst it lately.
Cummins was EXCELLENT with the bat. hung around, looked great, scored runs.
id put nevill in as keeper.
We got this
f*** off, you had the biggest salty tears yesterday that we had lost already.
starc smashing root in the head was awesome.
pitch is livening up which will suit our quicks.
we'll show the poms how to properly bowl short.
Nah it was never in doubt bro
The greatest delivers
Australias' greatest ever finger-spinner gets another and it was an even better one.
edit: Lyon's gonna clean up today. Do England even have a specialist spinner on tour?
Greatest ever spinner.
Don't go there.
Needed that one!
fortress will live on
Never in doubt
How good was Warner though
Had this from day 1
Suffer in ya jocks England.
Great win, always had it in the bag.
For those talking about Paine as a batsmen. He has only ONE first class hundred to his name. Nevill has 9 and I think by all accounts is a better keeper. Nevill is almost a year younger and averages 39 at first class level compared to 29 for Paine. Apparently the thing keeping him out of the team is he's quiet behind the stumps....
Personally think Khawaja doesn't belong. His weakness to spin is so evident that if I was a captain I'd bring my spinner on immediately when he comes out. Its almost Cullinan like!
Happy with how Marsh performed in the end. He should have scored more but thankfully he got to 50 when we really needed it. Not sure Maxwell would have had the temperament to bat the way we needed to on days 1 and 2 when it was a really slow patient grind.
yer, im team nevill as well, im not sure why he was overlooked?
happy for marsh or khawaja to be dropped to get maxwell in as a true all rounder batting nunmber 6.
if khawaja goes, marsh goes to number 3, and if he fails there, boot him and never select him again. (tough love)
I am pretty sure i remember thinking surely this must be the last time a marsh gets selected last time they failed, like for real this was the 20th time and failed.
But here we are.
off to adelaide next for the day/nite test with pink ball.
if poms cant win in adelaide, they cant win anywhere.
Joe Root must have been smoking some high grade weed before he came out and chose to bowl first.
Yeah seriously the wicket is flat as, what was he thinking?
trying to be a little too bit out of the box
Kind of reminds me of the time another captain decided to bowl first on a flat wicket in the second test.
What is the go with the day night tests? Is this a ruse for channel 9 to make more money through ads, like the NRL state of origin and grand finals being moved later?
I guess it helps people can come to the oval to catch a few hours after work.
Day night tests are awesome
Being able to come home from work and watch test cricket is awesome
The greatest australian spinner of all time nathan lyon should open the bowling imo
Are you trying to upset me?
pave thought we were going to lose the first test.
No fpot, just sayin' how it is
You think Lyon is a better bowler than Warne?
next pave will be saying fleetwood mac is a better band than the beatles.
hes lost his mind!!!!
Mick Fleetwood is a bit of a genius
may or may not have yelled yes! into the phone of a virtual meeting i was on when I saw the cricinfo update that root was gone, haha
It would make me extra delighted to see Cook depart.
I reckon Smith could be a bit more aggressive with his Lyon field.
aussies should have enforced follow on.
nah it could have gone way worse if they had enforced it
how, by finishing this test even sooner?
so he could win, never in doubt.
Mitch Marsh has been called into the squad because what Australia really needs right now is a bowling all-rounder who can barely bowl and also can't bat.
Still a better choice than watson
ffs, get maxwell in there!!!!!
cummins has practically been a bowling allrounder so far in this series
What the f***
Joban said he could get players to follow “scripts” — such how many runs would be scored in a session, or an innings, when a wicket will fall and what a team would do if it won the toss.
Seems rather scandalous. Will be pretty f***ed up if true. If there's a weak point on the Australian team it is David Warner.
That toss was rigged.
That dropped catch was brutal :(
marsh(s) are f*****g useless.
how was maxwell not selected?!
mitchell marsh better sack up and do something in this test, that was a sitter.
MMarsh is f*****g cack.
lucky we drafted him in to bowl 9 overs at 4.77 an over....
Australia on top I reckon.
thanks to Smith again.
MMarsh doing alright!
Smith is the man.
so many runs, australia would be nowhere without him.
Put Smith down for a 300.
It's always been like that. Clarke, Ponting, Waugh and Border before him have been the rocks. Be interesting to see some specifics regarding runs scored amongst those players.
isnt that called their average?
I meant percentage compared to the others.
Really gotta say, those Marshes have us all looking pretty silly right now.
Just to keep the drunk cricket posting going!
Lots of talk of match fixing of late. I try to abstain from declaring certain moments suspect because I'm well aware that some truly wondrous and seemingly unbelievable s*** can occur out there. However...
Mark Waugh may just be the greatest slip fielder of all time. This happened in his last test series. That third dropped catch... even I'd catch that one probably 9/10 times.
mite have just been old.
ive heard that happens to some people.
$3.25 for a draw. I couldn't refuse.
only rain today will save the poms.
ok, maybe the waca groundsman could also save the poms.
1pm start at Perth. 70 overs left. Meanwhile, number of overs required by Australia to take England's last six wickets so far this series:
from ABC feed
Broad is seriously their worst batsmen atm. He used to be so good!
Loving the 3-0 win. No for two stress free games!
The pommies were terrible! Almost as bad as the pitch.
Broad is seriously their worst batsmen atm. He used to be so good!
Mentally broken against fast short bowling
yeah he got drilled in the face a few years back and his batting has gone to s*** since
Probably one of the worst test matches I've ever seen, that.
i blame the pitch and the weather.
maybe we should ban melbourne from a test match next time?
Easy money for a draw. England should have declared earlier.
maybe we should ban melbourne from a test match next time?Agreed.
Yeah these drop in pitches don't help
Mitch Marsh to play County Cricket, not IPL
Willing to give him major props for this. I reckon all our batsmen should be forced to do it. One of the common traits of the great batsmen during the the 1995-2007 period is that many of them played s***loads of county cricket and competitive four day cricket in general. I really hope this pays dividends from him and that we have a world-class all rounder in the team.
I can't disagree with that really, i am sure that wasn't their intention with the pitch but somewhere along the line the mcg curator has f***ed up
That new system was an interesting read. Will the ICC have the balls to sanction Indian pitches though??
Also fpot imo Taylor was better than Waugh in the slips.
Will the ICC have the balls to sanction Indian pitches though??Of course not. Can you really expect they'll apply the same standards to them as they do to say, Old Trafford?
Haha no of course not, india will serve up their doctored s***** pitches and be rated AAA+
Last Aussie tour of India a pitch was rated poor.
England one wicket away from winning the test match here. I kind of hope they get it! :D
Australia to win 3-1.
I'd love to see a concentrated effort to restore aussie pitches to their original character. Brisbane hard and bouncy, WACA fast bowlers paradise (maybe the new ground will do this), Adelaide and Sydney spinners wickets. F*** I don't even remember what the MCG wicket was... probably one of the more neutral wickets.
The problem is drop in pitches, i have been listening to them talk about them on the cricket. I didn't realise each pitch in the square sits in its own idividual metal tray. It gets a bit nerdy engineering almost but one issue Heals mentioned when they roll the pitch because of the tray the dirt can't displace sideways which i could see being a problem when trying to make a hard bouncey pitch for example, they can't get the compaction in the soil because it can't displace as much as a pitch made in place.
Though apparently the latest version of the drop in pitches has holes in the bottom of the trays so the roots can penetrate beyond the tray, melbourne was not using that version of the drop in tray for the game just gone. Though not sure that will make much difference to my first point.
A great series win by Australia and some interesting statistics to come out of the series as well. First time in test cricket history that only the four specialist bowlers have taken all the wickets is my personal fav -
awesome bowling effort by australia. absolutely top notch.
"English test cricket team came all the way to Australia four nothing"
Australia have reanimated the corpse of Cameron White instead of picking Glenn Maxwell.
Although going by my selection comments this season he'll end up top scorer and wicket taker so power to him I guess!
feel for maxwell :(
And cameron white has been kicking ass in the big bash
Australia looking like total minnows in the ODIs. Good thing Cameron White is here to save us all.
Yeah what an absolute fizzer. Don't mind losing but apart from a couple of Starc wickets and a good ton by Finch not much to crow about.
I reckon more of the test players need to play. Where's Lyon for f**** sake?
need maxwell in the side
I went to the game but went to the pub after Australia finished batting.
Yeah unless they are hitting 300+ in the first innings now it isn't even worth watching.
Remember when 260 was competitive lol
It stuggles maybe? i must admit the last few years now i have been left underwhelmed when the first odi starts, because by that point i have been watched most of the BBL season which really plays on the instant gratification bit of your brain.
But i get into it after a few overs and i do enjoy the time they have to strategize a bit more than t20 games. T20 has made is more exciting because they treat it like a longer t20 game. The expectation is to score a run ball or you are not making a par score.
there is a lot more strategy in ODI which I appreciate. It feels like a min Test match because there is more emphasis on not getting bowled out for the first 30 overs.
I reckon the summer should be at least three tests x2 or in ashes years one or two tests + fives ashes with the minimal amount of limited overs cricket. Really boring this year and made worse by Australia getting trounced in the ODIs. That GABBA match was abysmal. Congrats on Steve Smith on his two medals. Looks like he's discovered a second kind of baggy green.
haha i agree with you the more test match cricket the better
but the vast majority aren't that into it, there would be a burn out pretty quickly
cant play too much test cricket. would kill our crickters.
That is also a good point, i told spook at the start of the first test that our fast bowling group wouldn't play all 5 tests and sure enough stark went down after 3 tests
There's more cricket and it's test cricket and Warner has 50 and Smith is batting.
edit: Warner out literally as I typed.
get this, saffers havent won a series at home against australia since the 1970s!!!!
i find that bizarre.
i guess our pitches are similar, but still.
yup, good start last nite, needed warner or smith to go on with it though.
need the tail to have a bit of a wag tonite, would want 400 minimum.
one of the players summed it up, two incredible bowling attacks, whoever bats the best is going to win this series.
little bit miffed its on at nite, i guess i can just watch a replay during the day while im lying around dreaming of throwing and bowling again.
wow, aussies completely on top already after smashing the saffers with the ball!!!!
great cameo by Starc with the bat when the aussies were really tied down, came in and just blasted away and freed up the scoring allowing us to put on another 75 odd runs.
Remember they were banned from international sport for a long period of time.
Australia DOMINATING. Hopefully we can back it up with the bat tonight.
I feel like buying some sunflower seed oil
oh dear, warner :(
Yeah that was pretty f*****g ugly.
bit too pumped from his runout :( (which was very good)
A real f*****g shame Rabada has been banned. A petulant little c*** for sure, but one looking like he may be the best bowler of his generation. If Steyn doesn't return RSA are in big trouble.
Yup absolutely. Cant be the brightest spark either tho.
Fast bowlers get a fair bit of leeway with what they can get away with and he still couldnt manage to not over step the line.
overton tee'd off a bit to get them to 58 all out. He scored 33* from No. 9
saffers are batting!
aussies have an early wicket.
the aussies have knowingly made a plan to cheat to win.
i cant even.
Yeah what the f***
i think its more likely that bancroft has beeb thrown under the bus.
I am struggling to find the words to express how stupid this is
Got a mate who at the cricket yesterday. Warner was full copping it from the crowd.
Smith cannot be captain anymore and neither can anyone involved in the planning of this. Makes it pretty slim pickings. Tim Paine is captaining the rest of this match.
I woke up early for work and like always instinctively checked the overnight cricket score. Haven't woken up to something so devastating since that night with infi's mum. The fact Australia will probably lose the match they cheated in by 300+ runs adds to the embarrassment. The effects of this will last decades.
shouldn't ever captain again and should be banned from playing for a period of time.
Australia has always been able to take the moral highground on this sorta s*** and that is now goooooooooooooooone. utterly f***ed.
and that's before even addressing how f*****g retarded the action was. at least use something vaguely hard to see not a BRIGHT F*****G YELLOW bit of tape. saffa cameramen are the best in the world (at spotting hawties in the crowd). how in the name of f*** did they imagine they wouldn't be spotted?!
I wouldn't be upset if those involved never played for Australia again.
hahaha, i do love how the saffers love showing birds inbetween overs.
Australia lost all 10 wickets for less than England did in their effort against NZ.
geezus, put a broom through the team.
It won't happen, but I'd love to have a Shield all-stars team flown over to take up 5-6 spots on the side. It's time to rebuild and focus on youth.
Hell, send that team that played in NZ a month ago - they were fun to watch!
there is more than enough youth in the team now, maybe that is the problem
smith was captain at 24
so, we all seen the footage of bancroft loading his pocket with sugar during the ashes?
looks like they've done this before (which is why i guess they thought they could get away with it)
that makes it even worse.
he was just saving it for a 'pick me up' later
but f*** me he couldn't have looked any more sus, the look on his face as he did it and just after screams 'i am doing dodgey s***'
but sugar wouldn't do s*** in terms of trying to scuff the ball up, if you stuck sugar to a piece of tape and then tried to rub a cricket ball it would turn to dust. it was probably more likely to be used like the poms did with those breath mints the sugar in those lollies they had that they were using when they would shine the ball.
That was actually Faf du Plessis that did that, against Australia!
he was just saving it for a 'pick me up' later
If you could get some of the sugar to stick to the ball or if it crystallised after drying out it would be enough to make the ball turn??
Dymocks on fire.
I believe it was about getting it to shine the ball for swing
Moisture could fill in the divots for like 1-2 balls?
So news this morning is the three "conspirators" have been sent home but Lehmann hasn't.
I personally would like to think Lehmann was totally unaware of these issues so doesn't bother me that he's still around. But I do wonder if it would have helped if he voluntarily stepped aside while the investigation was happening (or if it would have just created the irrevocable impression he was involved).
its an incredibly bad look for him as coach which ever way it played out.
this culture was fostered under his watch.
Apparently David Warner has 'gone rogue' and isn't talking to or being accepted by any of the other players. He may never play for Australia again.
Unlikley lehman didn't know given what i saw, but i dunno with all this warner talk now
chat is that he was letting the players know they were busted via tv when he called down to 12th man.
he may well have not known, but still, happened while he was coach.
Apparently Smith, Warner and Bancroft have been given 12 months each.
edit: Bancroft given nine.
12 months is plenty, I'm satisfied. Hopefully Australian cricket can recover, and if there's time, Smith,Warner and especially Bancroft can salvage their careers.
warner will never hold a leadership position in the australian team again.
This interview with smith is brutal.
the press conference?
it was :(
no one wants to see a grown man cry :(((((((
Yeah it was s***. I am all about the f*** warner bandwagon now.
Why the f*** are south african cricket commentators even allowed on our media? If anyone is going to have a b**** it should be the kiwis, they are the last ones with the moral high ground here.
looking at all the other punishments for ball tampering that other cricketers overseas have received and it's so minor, miss one match, half a match payment etc lol, these guys get taken to the stake in comparison.
Yep ICC gave warner and smith 1 match and bancroft got a warning
But cricket australia stepped in with the hysteria
Because the ICC are a pack of corrupt c**** with no interest in the integrity of the game.
Australia actually wants to maintain it's image as giving a f*** about fair play and send a message that this shouldn't be tolerated.
You would have to think that the punishments handed down here would act as a reasonably significant deterrent to any Australian players considering it in the future.
We should continue to strive in setting a strong example and not simply saying, "well f*** it, other dogs*** countries do it so why shouldn't we?"
Yep, it will be decades before someone f**** up again like this.
Anyone else notice the sound of crickets (lol geddit) re: Warner. If he came up with the plan and did it without Smith's knowledge then Smith is a f*****g hero. Sure, it may be reasonable to say as captain he should have detected it but you trust your teammates and you especially trust your VC. He's taken more than his fair share of the heat in any case.
Hopefully he can be captain again in two years. That press conference was raw as f***. Haven't felt that emotional since I saw Up! for the first time.
Ballsy move from Bancroft and Smith to waive their right to appeal and accept their original punishments. Again, waiting on Warner.
Channel 7 AND foxtel
As a foxtel watcher, im stoked with this.
Foxtel paid the lion share, the only reason channel 7 are involved is because the law forces foxtel to have to let some of it be on free to air tv
As a foxtel customer my smug levels have leveled up
I am now also a Foxtel customer.
that is their end game bro.
if you are serious about watching sport in australia, i cant see how you can't be a foxtel customer.
for normal people with jobs and families, thats undoable.
well, that's what I'm going to test for the next year or so. I'm not prepared to pay monthly rent to Foxtel for sport; I'd rather go to a pub!Neither was I until the cricket thing happened. Then I got it and there's sport sport sport everywhere and it's HD and streams nicely. F1, euro soccer leagues, NFL... it's all there!!!!
plus foxtel go is f*****g awesome.
