In an embarrassing display of misinformation, the Russian Ministry of Defence utilised a screenshot from a little-known game called AC-130 Gunship Simulator in a tweet. Stating "ISIS automobile convoy leaves Abu Kamal for Syrian-Iraqi border (November 9th, 2017)" - with the implication being that the US was providing support and cover.
Thanks to PCGamesN we know now that it's a game screenshot, dating all the way back to 2015 where it debuted in a YouTube trailer.
The tweet has since been deleted, but not before it was seen and translated as per below.
This isn't the first time game footage has been used in news, but as this came from the Russian government it's a bit different to the likes of BBC and CNN inserting game footage as evidence or to back-up a point. Which both outlets have done.
Russia is a funny place sometimes. I give it a 3/10. Nice try lol.
It reminds me of the DPRK using video from TOP GUN for their propaganda lol.
