Hey guys,

So Saint finally found some time to give us all the best option to avoid that annoying news spam you've been complaining about. I mentioned in the previous thread we were looking to just add a new "Latest News" forum where all AG news posts would populate regardless of the container Kosta or I posted them in, and that's exactly what we've done.

What this means for you is you can just jump between General Chat and Latest News and comment on whatever you want, regardless of the container. And what we're hoping (and would really like to see please), is more Comments appearing on posts than has been happening lately.

In General Chat we'll only push reviews, features and previews as a priority because, hey, this is still a gaming site ;) as well as any news we're 100% confident you'll want to talk about. And hopefully that cleans up the 'spam' issue for you and gives you a bit of an incentive to start Commenting on posts a bit more again, because it really does look better when we have a community as rich and traditional as this one being engaged.

If you have any suggestions on this moving forward or ways you'd like to see the site changed or updated, please just let us know!

Word,

Steve

Yo yo,

It's me your friendly sentient spam bot, Kosta. We've heard you loud and clear and yeah it was weird that news was mixing it up between the usual general discussions about everything. So we've changed it!

Hopefully this makes thing easier for the bigger threads to remain on the front page, also for the more interesting news pieces to do the same in their own thread.

a compromise

to avoid that annoying news spam you've been complaining about.

And rightly so

And what we're hoping (and would really like to see please), is more Comments appearing on posts than has been happening lately.

Lately? Lately?? The last half-decade hasn't been enough of a hint for you guys?

In General Chat we'll only push reviews, features and previews as a priority because, hey, this is still a gaming site ;) as well as any news we're 100% confident you'll want to talk about.
Oh, so the spam is just reduced, not properly segregated.

And hopefully that cleans up the 'spam' issue for you

Doesn't sound like it

and gives you a bit of an incentive to start Commenting on posts a bit more again,

How? There is nothing about this change that will prompt that.

because it really does look better when we have a community as rich and traditional as this one being engaged.

And this is the key point. There are two 'communities' here, sharing the same board. QGL, and ausgamers. The sub-100-posts ausgamers kiddies might comment once ever now and then, and then there's the thousands of posts monthly by the QGL'ers in the non-news threads. You might say you have an engagement of hundreds of unique users commenting per week, but if you drew a venn diagram, the overlap between the QGL posters and the ausgamers threads, the overlap would be marginal at best. But no, so bloody-minded are you to push this tumbleweed community, that you'll happily try and smush two non-cohesive groups together, year after year, blind to the eternal cultural divide.

If you have any suggestions on this moving forward or ways you'd like to see the site changed or updated, please just let us know!
Sure, and wait another half-decade.

I do recognise that we, the QGL community, are refugees of a time in gaming long passed. We are relics of a era gone by, some of us stuck there eternally. We need a home, and this is where we find ourselves. But i believe that ausgamers needs us as least as much as we need them, for the tumbleweeds sure would be thick on the ground without us.

dis. omg. wow

I have noticed a decrease in the number of 0 posts after the thread, but it's still in an amount that is forcing other non-zero posts of the front page. I think Previews are lame, you could probably have 1 post a week summarising the new previews for the week.

Maybe I should start visiting again, if I wasn't addicted to Gwent.
The post time limit doesn't help either.

So... Um... where in the settings do we set to only see the important stuff that you're "100% confident you'll want to talk about." ?
Can give you a pass for the Belgium one, it's new... a lot of those others with 1-2 are replies by Steve... or Konsta...

notgreazy's idea of an "Reviews/Previews/Features of the week" has merit. That way you could make 3 big posts a week ( one for each) that get ignored, instead of several posts a day... that get ignored.

Which means that more important News posts (Like EA Saga, or Belgium banning loot) don't get lost in the noise.

Yeah my front page still looks the same.

The Steam Autumn Sale started yesterday (or the day before I forget). Satellite Reign, a well-reviewed game made by Ausgamers dude WetWired (and others sorry I forget who!) is on sale for $2.99.

Pushed everything today into the news ONLY container guys, so there shouldn't be anything new in here from Kosta or I. We're teething this new system, so work with us if you can and hopefully we find a good middle ground.

That said, be sure to look in the Latest News folder and comment on s*** in there if you have an opinion on it. And we'll look at maybe bringing back the "AusGamers Weekly Wrap" I used to do years ago that was popular at the time, to collate the week's bigger news items, reviews, previews and interviews.

tbh, doesn't feel like an improvement to me, the forum has been completely dead the past week. One new thread in the last week (not counting the two reviews), barely worth checking anymore

Yeah agree you guys have gone the opposite now. Push at least 1 article/news post a day to the general forums, whatever you guys think is the most interesting. It's a balancing act for sure.

People don't make new threads anymore because when they did they'd just get buried by official Ausgamers spam. Things are a lot better now - maybe it just needs more time? People will start making new threads again that actually have a chance to gain traction and things will correct themselves.

Ah yes, must like porn.

Except I can comment on porn from 1970s but I can't comment on a news article from 1 year ago.
