Facebook has slashed the price of the Oculus Rift at the moment. I am tempted to get one.
yeah look's good
it's another $60 for the tracker to add room scale mode
it might be slightly cheaper shipping via Auspost's ShopMate
Apparently there is no shipping on the rift if you buy it from their store, they have a warehouse with them in here in Aus, I think.
So, does anyone here have a Rift or vive? What are your thoughts?
yeah it's the only way to do it that doesn't get you on backorder by direct ordering
i had one on direct order back in 2015 and they still weren't able to ship it after e-mails back and forth of shipping explanation, it's like they had no idea; oh unless it was going to be a quantity order.
the vive is pretty good despite it being heavier and less easy to access the good gravy content that Oculus secured early on with the VR publishers for exclusivity, which is not cool
the HTC tracker and knuckles remote for the vive are pretty awesome though, which the Rift doesn't have tracking inclusion or even plans for afaik
Lone Echo is pretty surreal, although i'm not sure if fun is the right description of it, it's definately the best VR story playable to date
I've never tried a vive, but the oculus, with the touch remotes, blows my mind. I was extremely skeptical of VR, I had put it in the same novelty gimmick basket as motion controls, but after trying an oculus with the touch remotes I'm a convert. This s*** feels like the future.
yeah Khel i've read similar sentiment all across the Steam forums or tech blogs, basically everywhere but the social media slaw
I will be raining my piggy bank and seeing how much extra money I can put towards it. I don't have a lot of room in my PC room but there could be enough for non-roomscale VR. Or I could get my old PC with my 970 and use that in a pinch. I will have to clean up the PC room, too much s*** everywhere.
I'd be cutting the price of the rift too if you look at how the Vive is dominating them on the steam stats. Last time I looked it was 70% Vive.
Yeah, but that's also probably because a lot of rift games are played through the oculus store/app. Proper official rift support in Steam VR is a relatively recent thing I think, but yeah I have barely played anything through steam on the rift. Played Everspace on steam and everything else through the oculus front end
The oculus app has its own friend list, add me when you get in there, Khelzor. I pretty much don't know anyone else who actually owns one, so I haven't really done any multiplayer at all, so I'm keen if anyone wants to do some co-op stuff or Star Trek Bridge Crew or whatever
the Vive distribution has been excellent though
just like their content agreements with pubs the Oculus marketing approach has been very brand centric and that has f***ed their acceptance in the $400+ tech buyers already confused by this shift to a VR focus and the pricepointing of it
how good is ShopMate, the parcel lockers must get paid for by the clearing rates though. idk it’s the best thing Post has done since iconifying the moped
I probably would have been better off just letting my Rift ship by UPS or whatever from Amazon. Shopmate wants 107 for postage which is more than the $54 it got when using their shipping calculator and also more than the $67 USD that amazon would have charged for global shipping. No idea how you guys saved money using it lol.
yeah it’s dodgey but you just declare the value as less than the actual
Star Trek Bridge Crew is 50% off on Steam at the moment too
I got mine the other day, finally. When I first put it on and started that Oculus demo thing, I just kept chuckling to myself about how cool this was. Also....VR porn on VR headset is pretty amazing. Just putting that out there lol. I have not played many games yet, I have tried H3 and its pretty cool but I just need to adjust it to make it work well and to work out how to get the wrist menu working.
Potential Google vs Facebook VR competition, could be good for competition, solid backing for them to really push Vive hard
After waring the rift for a while, the foam gets a little uncomfortable. I went online for solutions and I see that VRcover is a thing and you can buy them. I was thinking of a more DIY solution to this problem and someone on Reddit made their own and it was good enough. So I might do the same. Any of you guys have VRcover things or something else like it?
