Just saw this and wondered if anyone knows anything about it. It looks pretty unstable and more importantly still a long way from the hoverboards promised in Back to the Future III.

Are we far from driving landspeeders? Would a landspeeder be better than a car?

Hoverboards were from Back to the Future 2!

Check out this Australian design: http://www.hover-bike.com/faq.html

Airspeed Vne - 150 KIAS (untested)
Hover (out of ground effect) - >10,000ft (estimated)
Dry weight - 110kg
Max gross weight - 270kg
Total thrust - 295kg
Engine - 80kw @ 7500rpm

Can't see too many downsides... just wear a BASE parachute and strap some pillows on while flying the prototypes
