I just watched a couple of nice indie type ones and just by pure flukey-ness they both have the same actor in them. Mark Duplass is really making a name for himself with the whole directing and acting thing. He's Pete from The League tv show if you were wondering. If you haven't seen The League he's also in Safety Not Guaranteed and Your Sister's Sister.
Safety Not Guaranteed Three magazine employees head out on an assignment to interview a guy who placed a classified ad seeking a companion for time travel.Your Sister's Sister Iris invites her friend Jack to stay at her family's island getaway after the death of his brother. At their remote cabin, Jack's drunken encounter with Hannah, Iris' sister, kicks off a revealing stretch of days. |
The Amazing Spider-Man. I finally got around to watching it and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I liked that the webbing was manufactured like in the comics, and overall it had a much better comic feel then the previous ones.

Nothing, absolutely nothing! I've been bereft of good movies. It seems nothing I watch really grabs me lately.
I've seen some average ones, sure they entertain me, but no WOW factor for a while. I'm talking home entertainment here, ISO's, so I haven't caught a lot of new releases yet. I find myself watching a cycle of TV Series, The Wire, Person of Interest, The Walking Dead, Grimm, 30 Rock, are my latest. I need inspiration! Help!! |
The Forgotten
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0356618/ A Woman mourns for her lost child but her Therapist and Husband tell her there was never a child and that she is just delusional. |
Diary of a wimpy kid 3(same as the other 2), c***neys vs zombies(for a laugh), evil dead(never seen it), the descent 1 and 2(i think they are making a third)
|
safety not guaranteed was dumb...really dumb. Aubrey not bad though.
Loopers was awesome! |
I have to say that Dredd was pretty damned entertaining. No mask removal, no s*****, cheesy plot. Just gritty, raw, Judge Dredd goodness. Absolutely worth price of admission.
|
If you like Horror crazymorton, here are a couple I can recommend (that you've probably seen but you never know):
American Movie (doco) Dawn of the Dead (remake and original) Drag Me to hell Grave Encounters His Name Was Jason (doco) The Mist The Hunger Let The Right One In Poltergeist The Tunnel The Thing The Signal The Best Worst Movie (doco) The Blob Other movies that you've probably seen already (but if not you should watch): The Man With Two Brains Waiting for Guffman Three Amigos Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid Dirty Rotten Scoundrels Colors (sic) Pathfinder Mad Max 2 The Road Warrior Razorback Animal Kingdom Ken Park The Man Who Would be King American Ninja 2 Goodfellas The Wrestler Three Kings Eagle vs Shark Funny People Young Frankenstein See No Evil, Hear No Evil |
Abraham Lincoln Vampire Killer was a lot of fun
Also: The cabin in the woods Butter Moonrise Kingdom (very strange) Brick Looper |
Safety Not Guaranteed was alright, it had it's bad moments though.
The whole subplot of the dude trying to bang an old flame was pretty stupid, but the main plot kinda had just enough good parts to make up for it. I'm prepared to give this one a pass, it was from a rookie writer & director pair and it painfully shows sometimes but it wasn't too bad all things considered. Seeking a Friend For The End of The World I enjoyed, but the entire plot was thoroughly predictable. The Campaign was pretty dull - I was expecting more from Will Ferrell and Zach Galafianakis. Others that are good: Looper (until reddit predictably picked apart the time travel bits, gah) C***neys vs Zombies I haven't seen it yet, but Argo is reportedly pretty awesome as well |
Lawless (bloody and violent, but also good... has a full frontal throat cutting scene for the faint of heart)
Killing them softly. also violent, but not nearly as much as Lawless. |
That I've watched recently:
Killing Them Softly - Very good, recommend. Judge Dredd 3D - Good, recommend. The Fog of War: Eleven Lessons from the Life of Robert S. McNamara - Very good, defo recommend. Looper - Great, recommend. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Killer - Was really excited for this but it was SO s***, disappointing. Battleship - Watched it and was expectedly disappointed. |
Oldboy (2003)
then watch I Saw the Devil (2010) enjoy |
Whole lot of watched recently but not recently released list going on here.
Yeah, I have pretty much migrated to TV shows because I've found movies so lacking in the past few years overall. Might check out those indies in the OP though. Been thinking about googling for a list of foreign films to check out - thinking that perhaps there's someone overseas that has a similar taste in films of interest to me - even if I have to read subtitles to follow along ~ |
I just watched "Trick R Treat" but it wasn't exactly good...
Fun though, in a kampy summer-movie b-film sorta way. |
saw this recently with subs and yeah, its a pretty serious film. not something for the wife and kids
this is what you may need to search for Der Untergang (Downfall) EngSub 1&2 last edited by Rdizz at 05:04:38 27/Oct/12 |
for your consideration was awesome, watched it a few years back, love moofies like that;
|
haha that movie was so dumb, but i still enjoyed it. |
Savages. Brilliant. Disagree. I was expecting more action but instead got 2hrs of slow ass drama with only a bunch of action/suspense scenes thrown in. Wish i had gone to see Dredd or Killing them softly instead. And 2 dudes happily f*****g 1 chick, come the f*** on. Looper was good. Why were the weapons (revolver and blunderbuss shotgun thing) old school though? Looking forward to Cabin in the woods. |
Not a movie, but a Doco.
This one, 'Azorian: The raising of the K-129' Brief Synopsis: This doco tells the story of a 'black project' that took place during the peak of the cold war where two American companies, in concert with the American Government attempt to recover the remains of a wrecked Soviet Nuclear Submarine. So, it's not as 'dramatic' as a movie in terms of delivery, but for anyone with an interest in engineering (or human ingenuity) should check it out. F*****g fascinating story. |
That doco sounds awesome. Grabbing it now.
|
anyone else got any good comedy that i should see?
|
Some comedies you may have missed
Interstate 60 Sex drive Burke and Hare C***neys vs zombies bindlestiffs rat race tucker and dale vs evil |
Cheers Mike, I love docos, if anyone else wants to recommend any good new/old ones I'd be grateful.
Good docs I've seen recently. Client 9 - The Rise and Fall of Eliot Spitzer History of Britain - Simon Schama Putin, Russia and The West Watched Prometheus last night, it starts strong and has some awesome ideas, but really falls down in the last half. Still enjoyed it, but glad I had tempered my expectations. I don't know how people can say this isnt an a film in the Alien franchise, the little buggers have got their fingerprints all over it. Moon is still the best sci-fi film I've seen in recent memory. |
Ruby Sparks.
Interestingly, the chick who plays ruby wrote the film! |
Can someone please tell me what the name of that movie was were a women claimed her children were abducted by aliens in a small american/canadian town. It's kind of like a movie based on a true story (alleged) story etc.
|
The Fourth Kind I watched that under the belief that it was true. So much better that way. Same as Blair Witch. |
Watched The Amazing Spider-Man last week, wasn't bad, nothing earth-shattering though. Actually just watched it tonight, didn't mind it, I thought it was better that Toby McGuire's version. Watched C***neys vs Zombies last night, good for a laugh but didn't really live up to past british zombie movies. Also watched a doco last night called A Million in the Morning, well worth checking out. It's about a movie watching comp run by netflix where the contestants have to stay up for 5 days straight watching movies to get into the guinness book of records and win 10k. The doco focus's on the host whose up for the entire time and kinda goes mentally insane from sleep deprivation. |
Can recommend Flow: for the love of Water as a worthwhile doco to watch.
|
Abraham Lincoln - dumb as dogs*** - jesus where the f*** do they come up with this s***?
Ruby Sparks - Pretty good! Weird but good. |
The title of the film didn't suggest that it was nothing more than a popcorn flick? I didn't mind it for what it was.
|
Thanks for the 'Safety Not Guaranteed' recommendation, I really liked it.
|
Watched the new universal soldier, same as the other 4 or 5 of them, nice to see jean Claude and dolph though. Jumped about ten foot in the air with the car crash asy daughter had snuck in and touched my Shoulder from the back of the couch at the exact second to tell me it was too loud.
|
Hi,
I am fond of watching movies and recently i have watched drag me to hell and grave encounters. It is really good concept and very entertainer film. All should watch this film and it is so good. |
Cabin in the Woods for a WTF JUST HAPPENED MOVIE
The Campaign was meh The Host is okay if you want to understand how a sexually confused teenage whore thinks Expendables 2 was good for an old fashion beat em up, alot of stupid puns too for a laugh Argo was an excellent movie Looper is excellent too Seal Team Six Zero Dark Thirty, both good movies about the raid on Bin Laden, Zero Dark Thirty covers the events after 9/11 Seal Team Six covers the raid only. |
django unchained was awesome. probably my fav tarantino movie that i've seen so far.
|
The Debt with Helen Mirren, Sam Worthington and many other great actors.
Also recently I rewatched The Last of the Mohicans with Daniel Day-Lewis and I still reckon it's a top movie. |
Here's another indie style one that's been out for ages. I just finished watching it again. Prolly seen it 3 times now and it's one of those nice feel good movies you can rely on when you just wanna sit back and see something different. Twas released back in 2009 although I've never seen it here in Australia. It's a pity because it's such a cool movie.
|
Django Unchained.
13 Assassins (with subtitles) Might want to watch Hannibal (New US TV series).....disturbing.. Don't bother with Plebs. |
I watched King of Kong The other day.
I had never heard about the classic arcade gaming doco until a friend was chatting about the donkey kong work record score at the pub. If you haven't seen it Its a must watch! |
I don't promise these movies are new - just that I have seen them recently and enjoyed:
Gangster Squad - really good gangster flick imo. Sunshine - Sci-fi / end of the world movie. Quite enjoyable, though it gets a bit ridiculous in the last 20 minutes or so. Knowing - I know this one is like, 4 years old, but I only just saw it and quite enjoyed it. I'm still trying to find good sci-fi movies that I haven't seen, but I think I have pretty much seen every sci-fi worth watching. |
Sunshine was a great movie right up to the ending which was some kind of train wreck.
Saw a weird movie with the Olsen twins sister as a young chick who escapes a Cult. Pretty heavy going movie, kind of moves back and forth as you see the chick try to rejoin her sister and her husband spliced with what happened at the Cult. Dont watch the trailer, it spoils the movie. Martha Marcy May Marlene |
Saw Wreck It Ralph the other week and holy jesus it was awesome. Easily the best animated movie since Tangled. I can't wait for it to come out on bluray so I can watch it hi-def goodness. Maybe 3D if it comes in it.
|
I fell asleep in Wreck It Ralph. Only other move that's happened to me in was harry Potter 1.
|
Hmm. You must have been really sleepy because Wreck-it Ralph was awesome. Maybe you had a busy day and should watch it again.
|
Just watched Friends With Kids. Awesome moofie but totally didn't expect a tear jerker...twice! Definitely recommend this.
|
Are you lol'ing at Ralph or Kids? Both are good movies damn-it!
|
Bridesmaids was funnier than that looks. What a waste for Jon Hamm. He must make phat lewt off Mad Men.
|
Watched this fairly weird and relatively famous 2003 french movie called Love me if you dare. Its got that chick from The Dark Knight and Inception. Its a blend of Rom/Com with some weirdness/serious vibes thrown in. Thought it was really well done, would recommend ++
|
I enjoyed Wreck it Ralph too.
Went and saw Jurassic Park 3D yesterday evening and was surprised by how well they'd done the 3D conversion. Also it was awesome seeing JP on the big screen again, such an awesome movie especially considering it's 20 years old now. |
I just watched Wreck it Ralph, awesome movie! Really enjoyed it.
Gangster Squad was okay, not great. I saw Trance the other night, it's pretty good. |
I accidently got the 3d version of Wreck it Ralph and it was great on my TV.
|
I enjoyed Wreck it Ralph for what it was, but it wasn't as good as say, Toy Story, or Monsters Inc, or A Bug's Life.
It wasn't garbage tho, and that might just be my new 'scale' of movie ratings... Made the mistake of thinking that 'Saints and Sinners' would be an 'ok' action film. Cinematics were reasonable, plot was weak as piss, and the sound effects were woeful. (Y'Know, really bad dub work, cheesy/over-used sound effects etc) |
