I just got an Intel 520S 120gb for the speed and the warranty, but i can't comment on the performance as I have not yet installed it. Also $149 is a good price, mine was $175 from PCCG ($159 as of this post, price falling fast it seems).

The Intel SSD Toolbox cannot communicate with the selected Intel SSD.
Consider changing to another storage driver compatible with your system and try the tool again.

Tried an OCZ octane and vertex 4 in a sony vaio but there was lots of problems. Good descriptions in here:
http://www.ocztechnologyforum.com/forum/showthread.php?100893-Vertex-4-does-not-boot-when-starting-Sony-Vaio-F-for-the-first-time-Have-to-ctrl-alt-delete

5 pages before mods locked it and started actively investigating the issue.

Looks like the laptop doesn't give the drive enough power during boot, or the drive requires too much power on boot to run correctly.

Like all OCZ SSD products (cache, standard or otherwise), good specs on paper but terribly buggy. Have a read of the reviews here and here. Some common and recurring problems with that series. Head over to the Vertex 3 series and you'll see a range of different problems that plague that series. Rewind back to the Vertex 2 and holy s***. Bottom line is OCZ has no f*****g clue what they're doing with their SSD products, and they never have.

Summary: Bros don't let bros buy OCZ or Corsair SSDs.

Get an Intel or Crucial if you remotely value your data, your time, and/or your money.

Same... as long as you update the firmware. My PC was BSODing every hour last week, was driving me nuts. Finally worked out it was the SSD requiring a firmware update.. something to do with the SMART counter or something. *shrug* working sweet again now after the firmware update.

Not for the issues i've described for the vertex4, but the vertex3 is ok now, we've got a few of them around and since 2.2x something they're ok.

The vertex4 had a revision for 1.4 then 1.41 then 1.5x something but none of them solve any of the failure to boot, or resume from suspend (bluescreens) on some motherboards. So lots of laptops don't work so good with them, which is where I think they excel.

Hi Hef,

Did it just start occurring out of nowhere? My M4 Crucial is BSOD'ing all the time, as of last Monday.
Did something cause it to trigger?

Can you upgrade firmware without a format?
Been a long time, not sure if I ever have.

That said, once it BSODs+reset, the drive is not detected on boot until a full power off is done -- which is making me think the drive is going into power-saving and not coming out or something?
Have ready a similar report which was due to flaky PSU cabling.
I've tried swapping SATA cables, various SATA ports [Intel&Marvell], and new SATA power on the same chain.

Gah, just read this... and probably matches the annoying issues I'm having with my M4.

Crucial recommends a power cycle procedure when the BIOS does not recognize the drive.
"There is a bug that causes random errors after 5,100ish hours of use." - Flash Firmware to latest

What sort of vague s***** error/fault is that?!

I've been trying to decide between the Intel 330 120GB and the Samsung 128GB drive. Apparently they're both pretty reliable and cheapish.

Now my Windows Experience Index score is 8.1 across the board instead of poor, little 5.9 because of wd black. Wonder if anything now hits 9.9. From the uefi beep to the logon screen takes 4 seconds (plus five seconds from power button press).

Doesn't it max out at 7.9? Mine says 7.9 is the highest the scale goes up to.

Also, as far as OCZ goes, I wouldn't be buying another OCZ drive. My Vertex 3 was f***ed for the first few months I had it, every couple of days it would spontaneously disappear from Windows and Windows would blue screen. OCZ eventually got a firmware upgrade out that fixed it, and once I upgraded with that firmware I haven't had a problem since, but it still didn't give me a whole lot of faith in them.

Compare that to the Crucial M4 I have which has been absolutely perfect since the day I bought it and never skipped a beat.
